The Sagra del Brustico e del Prosciutto e Melone is held every summer in Villastrada, a hillside hamlet in the municipality of Castiglione del Lago, in the province of Perugia. It is one of the most characteristic sagre (local festivals) in the Lake Trasimeno area, as it focuses on a dish that is emblematic of this territory.
What is brustico?
Brustico is a typical Trasimeno preparation: the fish (usually perch or other lake fish) is cooked directly over embers made from burning dry lake reeds, an ancient technique that gives the meat an unmistakable smoky flavour. It is a humble dish, linked to the culture of fishermen, which the sagra helps to preserve.
Dining under the stars
Alongside the brustico, the sagra's menus offer tegamaccio (Trasimeno fish soup), pasta with fish sauce, grilled meat, torta al testo (a traditional flatbread) and, of course, the summer classic prosciutto e melone (cured ham and melon). Food stalls open in the evening, accompanied by dancing nights with live music, in a convivial atmosphere typical of Umbrian village festivals.
Sagra del Brustico — edition 2026
The 2026 edition, the 34th, takes place from July 15 to 19 at the Club Sportivo Villastrada Umbra, in the hamlet of Villastrada (Castiglione del Lago). The heart of the sagra is the brustico, Trasimeno fish grilled over cane embers, accompanied by tegamaccio, pasta with fish sauce, grilled meat, torta al testo, and the classic summer prosciutto and melon.
Food stalls open in the evening, from 7:30 PM, with dancing evenings featuring live orchestras.

The sagra takes place over five evenings at the Club Sportivo Villastrada Umbra:
- Food stalls open every evening from 7:30 PM, with the typical menu: brustico (Trasimeno fish grilled over cane embers), tegamaccio, pasta with fish sauce, grilled meat, torta al testo, and prosciutto and melon
- Dancing evenings with orchestras
The schedule of orchestras and evening entertainment will be announced by the organizers (Club Sportivo Villastrada Umbra) on their social media channels in the days leading up to the event.

How to get there
Villastrada is a hamlet of Castiglione del Lago (PG), on the hills south of Lake Trasimeno. It can be reached by car from the Castiglione del Lago area or from the Chiusi-Chianciano exit. The sagra takes place at the Club Sportivo Villastrada Umbra.
Times and admission
The food stalls open in the evening, generally from 7:30 PM. Admission to the sagra area is free; you pay for what you consume.
