In Chiavenna, in the province of Sondrio, the crotti are much more than cellars: they are natural caves crossed by the sorèl, a current of fresh air at a constant temperature that has always made these places ideal for ageing cured meats and cheeses and for gathering around a table. The Sagra dei Crotti, founded in 1965, was created precisely to promote this unique tradition of Valchiavenna.
Andèm a Cròt
The heart of the event is the gastronomic trail "Andèm a Cròt": private crotti in the valley open their doors and welcome visitors with typical tasting menus. Among the specialities not to be missed are bresaola, gnocchetti chiavennaschi, torta fioretto, and biscotti di Prosto, accompanied by the valley's wines. Ticket sales for the trails usually open on August 1st.

The 2026 edition of the Sagra dei Crotti di Chiavenna is held over two weekends — September 5-6 and 12-13 — confirmed by the official website. The protagonist is the "Andèm a Cròt" trail, which opens the valley's private crotti with tasting menus based on bresaola, gnocchetti chiavennaschi, torta fioretto, and biscotti di Prosto. Alongside the gastronomic part, the programme includes music, shows, cultural initiatives, activities for children, and cycling tours in the historic centre and among the crotti of Valchiavenna.
