A celebration of handmade pasta in the heart of the Vastese region
This edition has not been confirmed by the organiser to date. We recommend checking before going.
The Sagne a Pezzate Festival is one of the most cherished gastronomic events of the summer in Furci, a small village in the Vastese hinterland in the province of Chieti, in the heart of Abruzzo. The event traditionally takes place in the village's Parish Gardens, an intimate and convivial space that transforms for one night into a large open-air dining area for residents and passing visitors alike.
The dish that gives the festival its name is sagne a pezzate: a rustic pasta made entirely by hand, rolled out and broken into irregular pieces according to ancient rural custom. Dressed with a fresh and savory tomato sauce, they represent one of the most authentic preparations of Abruzzo's 'cucina povera', once a dish reserved for special occasions and family celebrations. In Furci, their preparation is entrusted to the expert hands of volunteers who preserve the recipe and techniques passed down from generation to generation.
Alongside the sagne, the festival offers a rich menu of regional traditions. Specialties you can enjoy include:
The evening is accompanied by live music that keeps the Parish Gardens lively until late, in a genuine village festival atmosphere. The festival is organized by local associations, including the Furci Football Association, and serves as an important moment of gathering for the entire Furci community, as well as an opportunity to introduce visitors to the flavors of the Vastese hinterland.
Situated among the hills that slope down toward the Adriatic, the Municipality of Furci is a small center in southern Abruzzo that retains the charm of rural villages, with its peasant traditions still very much alive. The festival, which usually takes place in August, is the perfect opportunity to combine a stroll through the village with an evening of fine dining, immersed in the authentic hospitality of the Abruzzo people.
The 2026 edition of the Sagne a Pezzate Festival in Furci, in the province of Chieti, does not yet have official dates. Based on previous editions, the event is expected in August at the Parish Gardens, with the traditional menu of handmade sagne, arrosticini, porchetta, and Abruzzo wine. The detailed program will be announced by the organizers through local social media channels.
Furci can be reached by car from the Vasto Sud motorway exit on the A14, continuing inland for a few kilometers. The nearest train station is Vasto-San Salvo on the Adriatic line, from which you can continue by car or local connections.
Access to the festival area is generally free; dishes can be purchased for tasting at popular prices at the stands. It is recommended to arrive early in the evening to enjoy the sagne freshly prepared.
As this is an outdoor summer evening event, comfortable clothing is recommended. For the updated date and details, we suggest checking the social media channels of the Municipality and local associations of Furci.
