The king of the autumn table in the heart of the Asti Monferrato
Every early December, the village of Cortazzone in the province of Asti transforms into a grand celebration of flavors for the Regional White Truffle Fair of Monferrato. The absolute star is the Tuber magnatum Pico, the prized white truffle that the Monferrato hills offer to local hunters, the famous trifolau, during the autumn season. Organized by the Pro Loco Cortazzonese with the patronage of the Piedmont Region, this is a highly anticipated event that celebrates the food, wine, and artisanal excellence of this corner of Piedmont.
The fair is one of those authentic, well-organized village festivals where visitors can fully immerse themselves in local culture. Amidst the intense aromas of truffles, fine hillside wines, and market stalls, you can stroll through the historic center, tasting local delicacies and chatting with trifolau, producers, and food artisans. The beating heart of the event is the truffle market exhibition, where the best specimens are judged and displayed, accompanied by typical Monferrato products: cheeses, cured meats, desserts, and the region's great wines.
The program traditionally includes an inaugural dinner and, most importantly, a fixed-menu lunch by reservation in the heart of the villageโthe perfect opportunity to enjoy Monferrato cuisine enriched with shavings of white truffle. The event also features the awarding of the best truffles, producer exhibitions, folk music, and entertainment, creating a warm, convivial, and family-friendly atmosphere.
Visiting the fair is also a great opportunity to discover Cortazzone and its jewel, the Romanesque church of San Secondo, one of the most significant examples of medieval architecture in the area. It is nestled in the rolling landscape of the Monferrato, recognized as a UNESCO World Heritage site alongside the Langhe and Roero. An experience that combines taste, culture, and tradition in one of the most truffle-rich lands in all of Piedmont.
