Provincial Exhibition of the Mochena Pied Goat

A native breed on display in Centrale di Bedollo

The Provincial Exhibition of the Mochena Pied Goat is the livestock event that brings the village of Centrale, in the municipality of Bedollo on the Piné Plateau (Trentino-Alto Adige), to life every autumn. The exhibition is entirely dedicated to the Capra Pezzata Mòchena, a native goat breed of Trentino historically linked to the Mòcheni Valley and the German-speaking minority communities that inhabit this area: in the Mòchena language, the animal is called Plètzet. It is a rare breed that has returned to the pastures thanks to the conservation efforts of local farmers.

The day: judging, parade, and awards

The event spans an entire day, starting early in the morning. After the livestock gather and the animal market opens, a jury examines the entries, divided by birth year and category: young buck, adult buck, young goat, and adult goat. In the afternoon, the top entries in each category are awarded, accompanied by special prizes for the best specimens. The parade of the finest animals is one of the most anticipated moments for visitors.

Animal fair, market, and gastronomy

Alongside the goat exhibition, the event features a small rural animal fair with sheep, donkeys, rabbits, and chickens, as well as a livestock market where breeders can trade animals. There is also a market showcasing agricultural, gastronomic, and artisanal products, an exhibition of vintage tractors by the 15W40 Piné association, and stands featuring demonstrations of ancient crafts. The food service offers mountain cuisine, sandwiches, chestnuts, and traditional straboi, accompanied by music and family entertainment.

A community event and Mòchena identity

Organized by the Mochena Pied Goat Breeders Association of Bedollo with the support of the municipality, the exhibition is much more than a livestock competition: it is a moment of identity for the Piné Plateau and the Mòchena community, which protects its rural and linguistic heritage through this breed. The event attracts numerous visitors to the Trentino region every year.
