A day of markets, tastings, and local producers in the heart of the Alta Langa astigiana
Primavera in forma di Roccaverano DOP is the event that the Consortium for the Protection of Roccaverano DOP Cheese dedicates to its flagship product in the town of Roccaverano, in the province of Asti, in the heart of the Piedmontese Alta Langa. For one day, the small hillside village transforms into an open-air laboratory of taste, where tradition, local storytelling, and authentic flavors intertwine in a convivial atmosphere.
The heart of the event is the market exhibition set up in the town center, right in front of the Town Hall. Here, producers from the ROB-IN project, supported by the Piedmont Region, showcase their goods, bringing together about fifty companies from the Alta Langa. It is a showcase that tells the story of the territory through its excellences and allows you to meet the producers in person.
The day is marked by two free guided tastings, at 11:00 AM and 3:00 PM, during which Roccaverano DOP is paired with products from the ROB-IN basket to highlight the versatility of the goat cheese and the dialogue between the different local specialties. Around noon, the Pro Loco of Roccaverano serves one of the most anticipated dishes: gnocchi with Roccaverano DOP, a local classic where the cheese expresses its fullest, creamiest, and most intense identity. Accompanying the day, between a tasting and a chat with the producers, is live music by the band Dugongo.
Roccaverano is one of the oldest and most characteristic goat cheeses in Piedmont. Produced with goat's milk, to which sheep's or cow's milk may be added, it stands out in both its fresh version, with a tangy note, and its aged, soft-paste version. Its production area extends between the provinces of Asti and Alessandria, in the Langa of Roccaverano, in the Bormida Valley and Erro Valley, a hilly landscape guarded by small farms. Celebrating spring here means telling the story of an excellence that is a cultural, agricultural, and community heritage of the Alta Langa.
The initiative is organized by the Consortium for the Protection of Roccaverano DOP with the support of the Piedmont Region and European rural development programs, and is part of the activities of the 'Piemonte Is - Eccellenza Piemonte' campaign. As the Consortium president Matteo Marconi notes, it is "a full day dedicated to being together, tasting genuine flavors, but also talking to producers to better understand the origins of products so important to our territory." Admission is free.
The event took place on Sunday, April 19, 2026, in the center of Roccaverano, in front of the Town Hall. The highlight was the market exhibition featuring about fifty companies from the Alta Langa ROB-IN basket, offering PDO cheeses, DOC and DOCG wines, PGI hazelnuts, organic honey, cured meats, and medicinal herbs.
The day featured two free guided tastings at 11:00 AM and 3:00 PM, with Roccaverano DOP paired with local products. Around noon, the Pro Loco of Roccaverano served gnocchi with Roccaverano DOP, while live music by Dugongo accompanied the entire day. Free admission.
