Two days of music, tradition, and local flavors celebrating the harvest in the capital of sparkling wine
The Grape Harvest Festival is the autumn event where Canelli, in the heart of the Asti province and Piedmont's wine country, celebrates the end of the harvest in the hills. Launched in 2025 and promoted by the Municipality in collaboration with local associations, the event transforms Piazza Cavour and the streets of the center into a grand stage dedicated to wine, farming traditions, and local flavors.
Canelli is universally recognized as the sparkling wine capital par excellence: here, in the deep historic cellars carved into the tuff, the famous Piedmontese sparkling wine has been produced for generations. During the festival, this atmosphere is brought to life through guided tours of the historic cellars—including Bosca, Contratto, and Amerio—and tastings coordinated by the Regional Enoteca, allowing visitors to discover the oenological heritage of the Canelli hills up close.
The program weaves together musical performances and folk dances with the most authentic rituals of Piedmontese peasant culture. Highlights include performances by the Canelli City Wind Orchestra, dance groups, country dancing, and the traditional cantè j'euv, ancient local folk songs. Evenings light up with music and dancing under the stars, creating a festive atmosphere that brings all generations together.
The food and wine stalls, run by the Pro Loco and local associations, offer typical products from the hills: local wines, Piedmontese culinary specialties, and the essential merenda sinoira, the traditional convivial late-afternoon snack. The experience is rounded out by demonstrations of ancient crafts, handmade embroidery, and creative, harvest-themed workshops designed for children.
With outdoor readings, wooden games for children, pop-up exhibitions, and guided tours, the Grape Harvest Festival is an event designed for all ages. It is the perfect opportunity to experience the Piedmontese autumn and immerse yourself in the identity of a community deeply connected to its land and its vines.
Following its 2025 debut, the Grape Harvest Festival returns to Canelli from September 18 to 20, 2026, expanding to three days. The dates are confirmed by the official municipal events calendar.
The event continues in the spirit of the first edition: Piazza Cavour and the historic center will host musical performances, folk dances, food and wine stalls with local products, children's workshops, and the customary guided tours of the historic cellars of the sparkling wine capital.
The detailed 2026 program—including times, musical groups, and activities—will be published by the organizers in the weeks leading up to the festival. We recommend checking the website canellieventi.it for updates.
