About Polentazza

In Civitella d'Agliano, in the heart of the Viterbo Tuscia region, the Polentazza celebrates traditional autumn peasant cuisine. Housed under a large, heated marquee, the steaming polenta made with stone-ground flour is served with pork rib and sausage ragù, a mushroom variation, or a rich three-cheese concia. Live music, traditional dishes, and the warm atmosphere of the medieval village make this November festival a delicious event to discover in the province of Viterbo.

The Polentazza in Civitella d'Agliano

The Polentazza is a vibrant new festival dedicated to polenta that brings Civitella d'Agliano to life, a small town in the province of Viterbo, in northern Lazio. Launched in 2025 by the local Pro Loco, the event showcases the simple, genuine local cuisine that once warmed the autumn evenings of the Tuscia farmers. The event takes place at the end of November, when the crisp air makes a hot, hearty meal the perfect way to gather together.

Polenta takes center stage

The heart of the festival is the polenta made with stone-ground flour, cooked just as it was in the old days and served steaming hot in several variations. You can choose the classic pork rib and sausage ragù, the mushroom and sausage version, or the indulgent three-cheese concia, a baked, cheesy delight. The menu is rounded out by a rich selection of traditional dishes, allowing everyone to build their own perfect meal.

  • Polenta with pork rib and sausage ragù
  • Polenta with mushrooms and sausage
  • Three-cheese concia
  • Pasta with ragù or pork ribs and sausage
  • Baked pork shank, hunter-style chicken, salad, potatoes, and fried porcini mushrooms

Music and conviviality

The Polentazza is about more than just great food: the evenings are filled with live music, ranging from piano bars to local bands, creating a festive atmosphere for all ages. Meals are enjoyed under a large, heated marquee, ensuring that the late November chill never dampens the spirits. On Sunday, the program expands with afternoon activities designed for families and local children.

The village of Civitella d'Agliano

Nestled between Lazio, Umbria, and Tuscany, Civitella d'Agliano is a medieval village overlooking the evocative badlands (calanchi) of the Tuscia region. The town preserves the Torre dei Monaldeschi, a medieval castle, and the church of Santi Pietro e Callisto, along with traces of Etruscan and Roman history. A stroll through the alleys, perhaps after a plate of polenta, offers a chance to discover an authentic and still-undiscovered corner of the Lazio Region.

A delicious autumn tradition

With its simple and welcoming atmosphere, the Polentazza has quickly established itself as a must-visit autumn destination in the province of Viterbo. It is the perfect opportunity to savor the true mountain and countryside cuisine of the Tuscia, support local associations, and experience the warmth of a community that loves to welcome visitors.

Polentazza — edition 2026

Following the success of the first edition in 2025, the Polentazza in Civitella d'Agliano is expected to return in November 2026 with its handmade polenta, traditional sauces, and live music. Official dates and the detailed program for the new edition have not yet been announced by the Pro Loco: we recommend following the association's social media channels for updates.

Programme Polentazza 2026

The program for the 2026 edition has not yet been published. The first edition featured polenta in various styles, traditional peasant dishes, and evenings with live music under a heated marquee. Details regarding dates, times, and entertainment will be communicated by the Pro Loco of Civitella d'Agliano on their social media channels.
