The polenta festival at the music pavilion in Terento, Puster Valley
The Polentafest in Terenten is one of the most beloved summer culinary events in Terento/Terenten, a charming village nestled at an altitude of approximately 1,210 meters on the sunny plateau of the Lower Puster Valley, in the province of Bolzano (South Tyrol). The event takes place around the iconic music pavilion (Musikpavillon) in the village center and attracts locals, holidaymakers, and hikers from the Gitschberg Jochtal holiday area every year.
As the name suggests, polenta is the true star of the day. Prepared according to traditional South Tyrolean rural recipes and served in various ways, it is accompanied by grilled specialties and a wide selection of homemade desserts. The open-air kitchen, the aromas of the grill, and the convivial atmosphere of the pavilion make this festival an authentic opportunity to discover the genuine flavors of the South Tyrolean mountains, set against the backdrop of meadows and forests typical of this corner of the Puster Valley.
The Polentafest is about more than just food: the day is brought to life by traditional musical entertainment, with the local village band and regional groups providing the soundtrack for lunch and the afternoon festivities. It is a gathering point for the entire Terento community, where local associations work together to offer hospitality and great food to all visitors.
The event is organized by the Sportverein Terenten, the local sports association, with the support of the Musikkapelle Terenten and other community groups in Terento. Proceeds from the festival support local association activities, reflecting the spirit of volunteerism that defines village festivals throughout South Tyrol.
Located along the Puster Valley's 'Sun Road', the village of Terento is a popular destination for summer hiking and winter skiing in the Gitschberg Jochtal resort. Attending the Polentafest is the perfect way to combine a mountain excursion with the pleasures of the table, in a village that proudly preserves its rural traditions, as evidenced by the Mill Festival and other initiatives celebrating the area's agricultural heritage.
