The South Tyrolean taste festival in the heart of Plaus
This edition has not been confirmed by the organiser to date. We recommend checking before going.
The Plauser Genussfest'l, or Plaus Taste Festival, is one of the most authentic culinary events in the lower Vinschgau Valley. Established in 2022, the event takes place in the village center (Dorfzentrum) of Plaus, a small municipality in the Autonomous Province of Bolzano/Bozen, in Trentino-Alto Adige. For an entire day, the streets and the village square come alive with flavors, aromas, music, and community spirit, drawing visitors from across the South Tyrol/Südtirol region.
The heart of the festival is the hot food stalls serving the finest South Tyrolean specialties along the village route. Alongside the food stands, you will find the farmers' market, where local producers offer high-quality traditional goods and rural handicrafts. A highlight is the famous apple strudel parade, a symbol of South Tyrolean pastry tradition, as well as the taste and sensory path featuring the (Un)sicht Bar, where visitors can eat and drink in total darkness, relying solely on their other senses.
The soundtrack for the day is provided by local folk and dance bands, performing throughout the afternoon and evening on the stage set up in the village center. The atmosphere remains convivial and familiar, typical of South Tyrolean village festivals: a perfect occasion to laugh, eat, drink, relax, and discover the creative crafts of the region.
Organized by the Bildungsausschuss Plaus (Education Committee) in collaboration with the Naturno Tourist Cooperative, the Plauser Genussfest'l places a strong emphasis on sustainability: the village center location is easily accessible by train and bicycle via the Vinschgau Valley cycle path. This choice perfectly aligns with the authentic and local spirit of this celebration of taste.
The Plauser Genussfest'l 2026 is expected in August in the center of Plaus (Autonomous Province of Bolzano, Trentino-Alto Adige). At the moment, the organizers have not yet published the official date or the program for the 2026 edition. In continuity with previous editions, the festival is expected to feature hot cuisine with South Tyrolean specialties, a farmers' market with local products and crafts, the apple strudel parade, the taste and sensory path, and live music. The final program will be announced by the Bildungsausschuss Plaus during the summer months.
Plaus is located in the Vinschgau Valley along the Merano-Malles railway line: the station is just a few steps from the village center where the festival takes place. The event is also easily accessible by bicycle along the Vinschgau cycle path or by car (take the Plaus exit from the SS38). We recommend traveling by train or bike, as suggested by the organizers.
Admission to the festival is free; you only pay for what you consume at the food stalls. For information: Bildungsausschuss Plaus ([email protected]) and the Naturno Tourist Association, tel. +39 0473 666077.
