The traditional Tyrolean festival in Tirolo, featuring music, local cuisine, and conviviality
The Traditionelles Tirolerfest (Traditional Tyrolean Festival) is one of the most cherished events in the municipality of Tirolo/Tirol, a small village in the Province of Bolzano that gives its name to the entire historic region of Tyrol. Nestled on a sunny terrace above Merano, at the foot of the majestic Castel Tirolo, the village attracts numerous visitors every year thanks to its historical heritage, vineyards, and mountain trails. It is against this backdrop that the festival takes place, offering a moment of authentic popular conviviality.
The event follows the Frühschoppen tradition, the classic morning toast of Tyrolean and South Tyrolean culture: people gather at the festival grounds (Festplatz) in Tirolo for a convivial aperitif accompanied by live music. The day is brought to life by the band Die Söhne Tirols, four musicians from the Puster Valley whose repertoire ranges from traditional Tyrolean folk music to classic and contemporary hits, party anthems, and rock. It is a setlist designed to get every generation singing and dancing.
Food and drink are central to the festival: hearty South Tyrolean traditional dishes, local specialties, and regional products accompany the band's performance. It is the perfect opportunity to discover the genuine flavors of the Tyrol and the Merano basin in a straightforward, family-friendly atmosphere.
The Traditionelles Tirolerfest is organized by the Tirolo Tourist Association and serves as a meeting point for the local community and the many guests vacationing in the Merano area. Not to be confused with the biennial Herbstfest, the large autumn festival featuring brass bands and floats, the Tirolerfest is a more intimate and convivial gathering focused on the Frühschoppen. In the event of bad weather, the festival will not take place.
