The traditional annual autumn market in the heart of the Ultental Valley
This edition has not been confirmed by the organiser to date. We recommend checking before going.
The St. Pankraz Market is the traditional annual fair that brings the center of San Pancrazio (St. Pankraz) to life every October. As the largest village in the lower Ultental Valley in the Province of Bolzano (Trentino-Alto Adige), it serves as a hub for the region. As the official municipal portal notes, "jedes Jahr im Oktober findet in St. Pankraz der traditionelle Markt statt"—every year in October, the traditional market takes place, marking a fixed point in the valley's autumn calendar.
This is a classic annual village market (Kramer- und Jahrmarkt), a tradition that has thrived in South Tyrolean villages for centuries. Stalls line the streets and small squares of the town center, offering a wide array of goods: household items, tools for farm work, clothing, sweets, and seasonal gastronomic specialties. For the residents of San Pancrazio and its scattered hamlets—Gegend, Guggenberg, Staffelsberg, and St. Helena—as well as for visitors from across the Ultental Valley, it is a perfect opportunity to shop, socialize, and enjoy the festive atmosphere of a traditional market day.
Nestled at an altitude of 736 meters, just ten kilometers from Lana, San Pancrazio boasts a remarkable historical heritage. Its parish church is the oldest in the valley, and its distinctive Gothic bell tower, with its octagonal dome, rises 56 meters to dominate the landscape. Nearby, the Baroque chapel of St. Sebastian bears an inscription commemorating the community's resilience during the 1636 plague. The October market takes place within this setting of Alpine traditions, rural farmsteads, and ancient folk faith, serving as a moment when the small mountain village becomes the meeting point for the entire valley.
The date indicated by the Municipality for the market is October 17th, recurring annually. To confirm the current year's edition, exact opening hours, and the list of exhibitors, it is recommended to check the official event portal of the Municipality of San Pancrazio or contact the municipal office directly.
