Three summer evenings of competitive pizza and emerging talent in Piazza Giovanni Paolo II
Every July, the Bivio Pratole district in the municipality of Montecorvino Pugliano (Salerno, Campania) transforms into a vibrant open-air stage. The Pizza Festival & Talent Summer Festival combines two complementary spirits: a culinary challenge between local master pizza makers and a competition for young emerging artists. The heart of the event is Piazza Giovanni Paolo II, which fills up for three consecutive nights with food stalls, live music, and crowds of all ages.
The undisputed star is pizza, in a land that claims a deep-rooted tradition for it. Local pizzerias compete before a special judge: the public. Attendees can sample the various entries and vote for their favorite, with the winning pizza announced on the final night. The 2025 edition featured seven competing pizzerias — 'O Primm Ammor, Nonna Donata, Pizza e Core, Le Parisien, La Tavernetta, I Sapori di Nonna Maria, and Giuliano's Pizza — confirming a format that directly involves local businesses rather than being a simple festival.
Alongside the food stalls, the Talent Summer Festival opens its stage to local talent. The competition is divided into several categories, and each contestant can enter one or more sections:
Performances animate the first two evenings, while the final night is dedicated to the finals and awards ceremony. It serves as a concrete showcase for young people who often step onto a real stage for the first time in an informal and welcoming setting.
The gastronomic area goes beyond the ovens. In recent editions, the festival has offered:
The result is an evening stroll that blends taste, music, and local commerce, with the typical rhythm of village festivals in the Salerno province.
Bivio Pratole is the most populous and flat district of Montecorvino Pugliano, nestled at the foot of the Picentini Mountains and just a few kilometers from the coast. Piazza Giovanni Paolo II is the natural hub of the district's collective life: during the festival, it hosts the stage, pizzeria stalls, and exhibitor booths, all within easy walking distance.
The event is promoted by the Municipality of Montecorvino Pugliano in partnership with the AMA Montecorvino Pugliano association, with free admission for all evenings. The nights are also covered by the cameras of SEI TV (channel 82 on digital terrestrial), which broadcasts them live—a detail that speaks volumes about the event's deep roots in the local community and its impact in the Picentini area.
The Pizza Festival & Talent Summer Festival is not a showcase for big names, but a well-crafted community celebration: the food is excellent and affordable, the voting is real, local youth are cheered on, and the final evening usually features a nationally recognized guest. For those visiting Campania in July, it is a direct way to experience the daily life of the Salerno hinterland, far from the more touristy routes of the Amalfi Coast.
From July 10 to 12, 2026, Piazza Giovanni Paolo II, in the district of Bivio Pratole, hosted the new edition of the event promoted by the Municipality of Montecorvino Pugliano in partnership with the AMA association. Three consecutive evenings, each with its own focus, intertwined the gastronomic challenge between local pizzerias and the competition for emerging artists.
During the first two nights, the public sampled the competing pizzas and voted for their favorite, while the stage featured contestants from the Talent Summer Festival. Sunday was dedicated to the final performances, the announcement of the winning pizza, and a show by Vincenzo Comunale, a Neapolitan comedian known for his appearances on Zelig and Rai 2.
The event was complemented by a gluten-free stand, craft beer, and an area reserved for local artisans and hobbyists. Admission was free for all three evenings, which were also broadcast live on SEI TV, channel 82 on digital terrestrial.
By car: A2 Mediterranean Motorway, exit at Pontecagnano, then follow signs for Bivio Pratole (Montecorvino Pugliano); the area is also served by the SS18 Tirrena Inferiore. By train: Pontecagnano station, a few kilometers away, connected to Salerno. By plane: Salerno-Costa d'Amalfi Airport in Pontecagnano is the closest.
The festival takes place in the evening for three consecutive nights. Admission to Piazza Giovanni Paolo II is free; you only pay for food and drinks at the stalls.
