Fourteen evenings of theatre, music, and dance at the open-air theatre overlooking the sea in Conca dei Marini
Aurea Maris – Theatrical Visions on the Coast is the summer festival that, from June 19 to September 27, 2026, brings the Alfonso Gatto Open-Air Theatre to life in Conca dei Marini, one of the smallest and most scenic villages on the Amalfi Coast, in the province of Salerno, Campania. Fourteen evenings of drama, music, jazz, and dance unfold in a venue overlooking the Tyrrhenian Sea, where the show begins at sunset and continues into the night, amidst the scent of the sea and the lights of the coast.
The festival is promoted by the Municipality of Conca dei Marini, led by Mayor Pasquale Buonocore, and curated by the M&N'S association under the artistic direction of Nicola Le Donne. The project is supported by Summarte – Il teatro del buon gusto and features Rai as a media partner. The artistic director's vision is clear: to transform the stage into a space for cultural cross-pollination, where the tradition of actor-led theatre dialogues seamlessly with music and dance. For the municipal administration, the festival holds strategic value for the region, as it restores the Coast to its most intimate vocation: a place of gathering rather than just a tourist thoroughfare.
The program alternates between auteur theatre, music, jazz, comedy, and dance, with a progression that accompanies the entire season, from the start of summer to the first weeks of autumn. Key highlights include:
The Alfonso Gatto Open-Air Theatre, named after the poet from Salerno, is one of those places where scenery is unnecessary: the backdrop is the open sea and the silhouette of the coastline. The intimate seating area ensures a close connection with the performers, giving the evenings an almost confidential atmosphere, far removed from large-scale summer mass events. It is a formula that fits perfectly with Conca dei Marini, a village of a few hundred inhabitants nestled between Amalfi and Praiano, also famous for the Emerald Grotto.
Aurea Maris offers high-quality evenings in an incomparable landscape, with a program that goes beyond the Neapolitan repertoire to explore Molière, Dante, Mediterranean jazz, and contemporary dance. For those spending a few days on the Amalfi Coast between June and September, it is the perfect opportunity to complement a day at the beach with an evening cultural event, just a few kilometres from Amalfi in a town that remains pleasantly secluded for the rest of the year.
The 2026 edition marks the birth of the festival: fourteen events distributed from June 19 to September 27 at the Alfonso Gatto Open-Air Theatre in Conca dei Marini, in the province of Salerno. The program, built by artistic director Nicola Le Donne for the M&N'S association at the behest of the Municipality, alternates auteur theatre, concerts, jazz, and dance without genre hierarchies.
It starts on June 19 with Monica Sarnelli and her Napoli Blu, followed two days later by Mario Autore tackling Molière's The Miser. July is the busiest month, with Statue Unite by Eduardo Tartaglia and Veronica Mazza, Lo Sconcertato by Rosario Verde, the saxophone of Marco Zurzolo, the comedic lesson by Amedeo Colella, and the sunset concert by the Orchestra Harmonia. August brings the Divine Comedy by Franco Nappi, the music of Gabriele Esposito, and the Mediterranean Ensemble by Gio Cristiano; September closes with Peppe Lanzetta, Ciro Giustiniani, the Grand Dance Gala, and the final evening dedicated to Kean genio e sregolatezza.
Performances begin at sunset and continue into the night, with the sea of the Amalfi Coast as the only scenic backdrop.
All performances are held at the Alfonso Gatto Open-Air Theatre in Conca dei Marini and begin in the evening, at sunset. The program is subject to change: it is advisable to check the official website aureamaris.it.
