About Aurea Maris

From June 19 to September 27, 2026, the Alfonso Gatto Open-Air Theatre in Conca dei Marini hosts Aurea Maris – Theatrical Visions on the Coast, featuring fourteen evenings of drama, music, jazz, and dance suspended over the sea of the Amalfi Coast. Promoted by the Municipality and artistically directed by Nicola Le Donne, the festival brings together some of the most prominent names in Neapolitan and national theatre: from Monica Sarnelli to Mario Autore, Eduardo Tartaglia to Peppe Lanzetta, culminating in the Grand Dance Gala in September.

The theatre suspended over the sea of Conca dei Marini

Aurea Maris – Theatrical Visions on the Coast is the summer festival that, from June 19 to September 27, 2026, brings the Alfonso Gatto Open-Air Theatre to life in Conca dei Marini, one of the smallest and most scenic villages on the Amalfi Coast, in the province of Salerno, Campania. Fourteen evenings of drama, music, jazz, and dance unfold in a venue overlooking the Tyrrhenian Sea, where the show begins at sunset and continues into the night, amidst the scent of the sea and the lights of the coast.

A festival born from the local area

The festival is promoted by the Municipality of Conca dei Marini, led by Mayor Pasquale Buonocore, and curated by the M&N'S association under the artistic direction of Nicola Le Donne. The project is supported by Summarte – Il teatro del buon gusto and features Rai as a media partner. The artistic director's vision is clear: to transform the stage into a space for cultural cross-pollination, where the tradition of actor-led theatre dialogues seamlessly with music and dance. For the municipal administration, the festival holds strategic value for the region, as it restores the Coast to its most intimate vocation: a place of gathering rather than just a tourist thoroughfare.

The 2026 lineup

The program alternates between auteur theatre, music, jazz, comedy, and dance, with a progression that accompanies the entire season, from the start of summer to the first weeks of autumn. Key highlights include:

  • Monica Sarnelli opens the festival with Napoli Blu (June 19);
  • Mario Autore performs The Miser based on Molière (June 21);
  • Eduardo Tartaglia and Veronica Mazza, with Giuseppe De Rosa, in Statue Unite (July 4);
  • saxophonist Marco Zurzolo with Il suono della città (July 11);
  • the Orchestra Harmonia conducted by Maestro Filippo Staiano in the Sunset Concert (July 25);
  • Peppe Lanzetta with Parole Stonate (September 6);
  • the Grand Dance Gala by Elima's Dance (September 17-20);
  • the closing night with Adriano Falivene and Eduardo D'Orsi in Kean genio e sregolatezza (September 27).

A stage that is a show in itself

The Alfonso Gatto Open-Air Theatre, named after the poet from Salerno, is one of those places where scenery is unnecessary: the backdrop is the open sea and the silhouette of the coastline. The intimate seating area ensures a close connection with the performers, giving the evenings an almost confidential atmosphere, far removed from large-scale summer mass events. It is a formula that fits perfectly with Conca dei Marini, a village of a few hundred inhabitants nestled between Amalfi and Praiano, also famous for the Emerald Grotto.

Why it's worth the trip

Aurea Maris offers high-quality evenings in an incomparable landscape, with a program that goes beyond the Neapolitan repertoire to explore Molière, Dante, Mediterranean jazz, and contemporary dance. For those spending a few days on the Amalfi Coast between June and September, it is the perfect opportunity to complement a day at the beach with an evening cultural event, just a few kilometres from Amalfi in a town that remains pleasantly secluded for the rest of the year.

Aurea Maris — edition 2026

The inaugural edition of Aurea Maris – Theatrical Visions on the Coast spans the entire summer of 2026, from June 19 to September 27, with fourteen evenings at the Alfonso Gatto Open-Air Theatre in Conca dei Marini. Drama, music, jazz, comedy, and dance alternate in a program curated by Nicola Le Donne, bringing some of the most famous names of the Neapolitan and national scene to the Amalfi Coast.

Aurea Maris 2026: the inaugural season

The 2026 edition marks the birth of the festival: fourteen events distributed from June 19 to September 27 at the Alfonso Gatto Open-Air Theatre in Conca dei Marini, in the province of Salerno. The program, built by artistic director Nicola Le Donne for the M&N'S association at the behest of the Municipality, alternates auteur theatre, concerts, jazz, and dance without genre hierarchies.

It starts on June 19 with Monica Sarnelli and her Napoli Blu, followed two days later by Mario Autore tackling Molière's The Miser. July is the busiest month, with Statue Unite by Eduardo Tartaglia and Veronica Mazza, Lo Sconcertato by Rosario Verde, the saxophone of Marco Zurzolo, the comedic lesson by Amedeo Colella, and the sunset concert by the Orchestra Harmonia. August brings the Divine Comedy by Franco Nappi, the music of Gabriele Esposito, and the Mediterranean Ensemble by Gio Cristiano; September closes with Peppe Lanzetta, Ciro Giustiniani, the Grand Dance Gala, and the final evening dedicated to Kean genio e sregolatezza.

Performances begin at sunset and continue into the night, with the sea of the Amalfi Coast as the only scenic backdrop.
