About Amalfi Summer Fest

From July to September, the Municipality of Amalfi transforms its squares, monumental staircases, and ancient shipyards into open-air stages. The Amalfi Summer Fest is the city's annual summer festival featuring free-entry events. Jazz, Neapolitan song, pop, comedy theatre, and sunset concerts take place across Piazza Duomo, the new amphitheatre in Piazza Municipio, the Arsenale della Repubblica Marinara, and Piazzetta di Lone, showcasing top Italian talent with every evening open to the public.

A summer of free performances in the heart of the Amalfi Coast

The Amalfi Summer Fest is the major summer festival promoted by the Municipality of Amalfi, in the province of Salerno, Campania. From mid-July to early September, the city turns its monumental squares into an open-air theatre: over two months of concerts, theatrical shows, literary meetings, and family events. The hallmark of the festival is simple and generous: all events are free to attend, with no tickets or reservations required.

The venues: squares, staircases, and an ancient shipyard

The strength of the festival lies in the quality of its locations, all within walking distance in the historic centre of Amalfi. Evenings are hosted across four spaces that have become the festival's signature:

  • Piazza Duomo, where the monumental staircase of the Cathedral of Sant'Andrea serves as a natural backdrop, turning the square into an elegant open-air amphitheatre;
  • Piazza Municipio, recently renovated with a new tiered seating area that hosts theatrical shows and the most popular concerts;
  • The Arsenale della Repubblica Marinara, the ancient medieval shipyards, home to more intimate performances and choral concerts;
  • Piazzetta di Lone, overlooking the sea, dedicated to sunset concerts.

A diverse programme

The line-up is not limited to pop music: each edition blends jazz, classic and contemporary Neapolitan song, singer-songwriter pop, vinyl sets, symphonic orchestras, prose, and comedy theatre. This is a deliberate choice by the municipal administration, which over the years has brought leading Italian voices to Amalfi, alongside local choral projects, regional ensembles, and international guests. The result is a diverse audience, where residents mingle with Italian and international visitors who fill the Coast during those weeks.

Amalfi d'Autore, children's events, and sunset concerts

Alongside the major concerts, the festival develops parallel sections: the Amalfi d'Autore literary festival, featuring presentations and author meet-and-greets, a programme dedicated to children and families, and the sunset concerts—a signature format that makes the most of the evening light over the gulf. Various cultural initiatives continue even after the musical programme concludes, extending the season into autumn.

The bond with the history of the Maritime Republic

Amalfi is no ordinary tourist destination: it was the first of the four Italian Maritime Republics and still retains a strong awareness of that past. It is no surprise, then, that the end of the festival intertwines with the Byzantine New Year, a historical re-enactment held between late August and early September that celebrates the calendar of the ancient Duchy of Amalfi with processions, lights, and shows. The grand concert during those days ideally closes the civic celebrations, before the final jazz evenings in September in Piazza Duomo.

Why it's worth the trip

Attending a free concert on the Cathedral steps, with the Arab-Norman bell tower illuminated behind you and the scent of the sea just a few dozen metres away, is an experience hard to replicate anywhere else. The Amalfi Summer Fest allows you to experience the Amalfi Coast in its most authentic dimension—that of the square and the community, rather than just the postcard version. Evenings end late, the centre's bars remain open, and the city stays alive until nightfall.

Amalfi Summer Fest — edition 2026

The 2026 edition of the Amalfi Summer Fest runs from 13 July to 11 September with twelve free events. The programme, curated by the Municipality of Amalfi, features Tosca, Shablo with his Street Jazz Tour, Maurizio Casagrande, Karima, Gegè Telesforo, the International Orchestra of Campania, and the grand choral cast of Passione Live, with Enzo Gragnaniello as a guest. Evenings are divided between Piazza Duomo, the new amphitheatre in Piazza Municipio, the Arsenale della Repubblica, and Piazzetta di Lone.

Amalfi Summer Fest 2026: two months of big names with free entry

The 2026 programme, promoted by the municipal administration led by Mayor Daniele Milano and the Councillor for Culture and Events Enza Cobalto, opens on Monday 13 July in Piazza Municipio and closes on Friday 11 September in Piazza Duomo. The inauguration is also a civic moment: the presentation of the renovation works of Piazza Municipio and the removal of architectural barriers at the town hall, accompanied by the Napoli Eterna show.

The programme covers very different genres: classic and contemporary Neapolitan song, jazz, pop, prose and comedy theatre, vinyl music, and symphonic orchestra. Alongside the concerts, the 2026 edition hosts the Amalfi d'Autore literary festival, events dedicated to children, sunset concerts, and cultural initiatives that continue into autumn. All events are free.

The most anticipated moment is likely the concert by Tosca on 2 September, Le Feminæ si fanno rispettare, which closes the celebrations of the Byzantine New Year, the festival that commemorates Amalfi's past as the first Maritime Republic of Italy. The finale is entrusted to jazz: on 8 September, Shablo brings his Street Jazz Tour to Piazza Duomo, and on 11 September, Gegè Telesforo closes with Jazz Radio.
