Three months of events between the Bosco dei Morroni and the historic center of the Aglianico village
rEstate a Montemarano is not just a single festival but a comprehensive calendar of events. From June 25 to September 27, 2026, the Municipality of Montemarano—a small town of just over 2,500 inhabitants perched at an altitude of 820 meters in the province of Avellino, Campania—fills its squares, the municipal forest, and the surrounding districts with nearly thirty different appointments. Culture, music, sports, food, wine, and popular devotion alternate almost every weekend, setting the rhythm for a town known throughout Italy in winter for its Carnival and the Montemarano tarantella.
The formula, now in its 14th edition in 2026, is typical of Irpinian villages: the municipal administration coordinates, but the program is grassroots, created by the Pro Loco, festival committees, the parish, sports associations, and youth groups who organize their own events each year. The result is a varied calendar where a theatrical performance might be followed by an 11-a-side football tournament and a wine tasting in the woods.
Many of the most characteristic events take place in the Bosco dei Morroni, the municipal beech forest that surrounds the town and becomes the ultimate meeting place in summer. This is where the Pic Nic nel Bosco, the Aperibosco, the Sentieri del Benessere - Detox Experience, the Sentiero dei Calici - Wine Experience, and the Sentiero della Notte - Ferragosto Fest are held: walks, aperitifs, and open-air tastings designed to help visitors discover the local woodland heritage alongside regional products.
The calendar opens and closes with devotion: it begins on June 25 and 26 with celebrations in honor of the Holy Martyrs John and Paul, accompanied by the traditional trade fair in the town center, and continues with the feast of the Sacred Hearts of Jesus and Mary in the Chianzano district, the Feast of Mercy, the celebrations in honor of Saint John of Montemarano, the town's patron saint, from August 20 to 22, and the feast of Mary Most Holy Immaculate in the Canali district at the end of the month.
August also sees the return of two historic events that maintain their own identity while remaining part of the program: the Forest and Emigrant Festival, now in its 42nd edition, dedicated to those who left Montemarano and return every summer, and Youth Under the Stars, in its 23rd edition, organized by the local youth in the Canali district.
From mid-July, the municipal football field hosts the FantaFC Montemarano 11-a-side tournament and the Youth Tournament, organized by the FC Montemarano association; on August 23, the Amphitheater hosts the Elderly Festival, one of the most heartfelt moments for the community. On September 4, the Closing Summer event by Pro Loco 2.0 bids farewell to the season in the panoramic area of the historic center.
The festival concludes in style from September 25 to 27 with the 42nd edition of the Aglianico Festival in the historic center. Montemarano is one of the municipalities of the Taurasi DOCG, and Aglianico is the town's signature product. Three days of tastings, open wineries, music, and food stands attract visitors from all over Campania every year.
rEstate a Montemarano is the perfect opportunity to discover inland Irpinia away from the classic tourist circuits: fresh mountain air even in mid-August, affordable prices, authentic hospitality, and a program that allows you to choose every evening between spirituality, music, good wine, and walks in the woods. A faithful portrait of how summer is lived in the villages of the Campanian Apennines.
Presented on June 27, 2026, the summer calendar of the Municipality of Montemarano covers the entire season, from June 25 to September 27, with a program built together with Pro Loco 2.0, Associazione Pro Montemarano, FC Montemarano, the parish, Misericordia Luigi Gallo, festival committees, and the associations Amo Montemarano and Mela.
The venues are the usual ones: the Municipal Amphitheater for theater and shows, the municipal football field for tournaments, the Bosco dei Morroni for aperitifs, tastings, and wellness trails, and the historic center and the Canali, Chianzano, and Immacolata districts for traditional feasts.
The busiest month is August, with the Tarantella Summer Fest, the Ferragosto Fest in the woods, the 42nd Forest and Emigrant Festival, the 23rd edition of Youth Under the Stars, and the patronal celebrations in honor of Saint John of Montemarano from August 20 to 22. The closing is entrusted to the Aglianico Festival, from September 25 to 27.
By car: from the A16 Naples-Bari motorway, take the Avellino Est or Benevento exit, then follow the SS7 Appia and the SP towards Montemarano (about 30 km from Avellino). By train: Avellino station, then bus line to the upper Calore valley. Nearest airport: Naples-Capodichino, about 80 km away.
Municipal Amphitheater, municipal football field, Bosco dei Morroni, historic center and panoramic area, Canali, Chianzano, and Immacolata districts, Ex ECA premises.
Access to the festival events is free; only tastings, food stand menus, and some experiences in the woods (wine experience, detox experience) require a small fee to be paid on-site.
Montemarano is located at an altitude of 820 meters: even in August, it is advisable to bring a sweater for open-air evenings. Closed-toe shoes are recommended for walks in the Bosco dei Morroni. Accommodation is available in farmhouses and B&Bs in the Taurasi, Castelfranci, and Volturara Irpina areas.
