About I Suoni degli Dei

I Suoni degli Dei brings live classical music to the Path of the Gods, at an altitude of 500 to 600 meters above Praiano on the Amalfi Coast. Free concerts are held on Saturday mornings at 11:00 AM in locations suspended between sky and sea: the churchyard of Santa Maria a Castro near the Convent of San Domenico, Li Cannati, and Colle Serra. The stages are accessible only on foot, hiking from Praiano, Agerola, or Positano: first the trek, then Bach, Telemann, and Vivaldi with the gulf before your eyes.

A festival where the mountain is the stage

I Suoni degli Dei - Concerts on the Path of the Gods is a classical music festival held in Praiano, in the province of Salerno, in the heart of the Amalfi Coast and Campania. It has no theater, no rows of seats, and no box office: the concerts take place outdoors along the Path of the Gods, one of Italy's most famous hiking trails, at an altitude between 500 and 600 meters above sea level. The audience arrives on foot, sits on the stones or grass, and listens with the Gulf of Salerno and the faraglioni of Capri on the horizon.

The idea was born from the intuition of Gennaro Amendola, a RAI set designer and president of the Associazione Pelagos of Praiano, who also serves as the artistic director. The event is organized by the Municipality of Praiano together with the Associazione Pelagos, the Associazione Musicale Costa d'Amalfi (A.M.C.A.), and the San Gennaro Parish, with the patronage of the Amalfi Coast Tourist District.

Three natural stages above the Coast

The concert venues are always the same and are part of the festival's identity:

  • Piazzetta of the church of Santa Maria a Castro, near the Convent of San Domenico, at about 365 meters above sea level, above the town of Praiano;
  • Li Cannati, along the Path of the Gods, at about 530 meters;
  • Colle Serra, also on the path, at about 578 meters, the most panoramic point of the entire route.

Among the ruins of ancient stone dwellings and the terraced fields of the Lattari Mountains, the sound of strings and winds blends with the wind and the distant sound of the sea: a natural acoustic that no concert hall can replicate.

The repertoire: Baroque, classical, and a few surprises

The programming is entrusted to local musicians and young instrumentalists from Campania, performing in duos, trios, and small ensembles. Over the years, audiences have heard violins, violas, cellos, double basses, flutes, piccolos, guitars, clarinets, and euphoniums, playing works by Antonio Vivaldi, Johann Sebastian Bach, Georg Philipp Telemann, Arcangelo Corelli, Domenico Scarlatti, Benedetto Marcello, Händel, Mozart, Schubert, Debussy, and Massenet. Each performance lasts about an hour and opens with a brief presentation of the program.

Walk before you listen

Participation is free and open to all, but the entry ticket is the climb. You start on foot from Praiano (from the staircase leading to Santa Maria a Castro), from Bomerano in Agerola, or from Positano, with routes ranging from one and a half to three hours of walking and an elevation gain of 500-600 meters. The trail is classified as medium difficulty: steps, exposed sections, and dirt paths. For this reason, the festival has become a beloved appointment for those visiting the Coast off-season, when spring and autumn offer the clearest days.

A different way to experience the Amalfi Coast

I Suoni degli Dei was also created as a tool for de-seasonalization: it takes place in May, September, and October, with the traditional break during the hot months of June, July, and August, when the trail is too crowded and the sun too strong. It is a proposal that combines two experiences highly loved in Campania, hiking and live concerts, and restores to Praiano—the most discreet of the coastal villages—a cultural role of its own, far from the mass tourism of Positano and Amalfi.

I Suoni degli Dei — edition 2026

The 18th edition of I Suoni degli Dei opened on Saturday, May 9, 2026, and continues until October 24. The program includes ten free classical music concerts performed by about twenty musicians on the three natural stages of the Path of the Gods above Praiano: the square of Santa Maria a Castro at the Convent of San Domenico, Li Cannati, and Colle Serra. Performances at 11:00 AM, accessible on foot from Praiano, Agerola, and Positano.

The 18th edition

In 2026, I Suoni degli Dei reaches the milestone of its eighteenth edition. The festival opened on Saturday, May 9, with a spring cycle of five events and resumes in the autumn, from September 20 to October 24, for a total of ten concerts entrusted to about twenty musicians.

As always, admission is free and open to all, the start time is set for 11:00 AM, and the venues remain the three natural balconies overlooking the Amalfi Coast: the churchyard of Santa Maria a Castro (approx. 365 m), Li Cannati (approx. 530 m), and Colle Serra (approx. 578 m), all along the Path of the Gods in the municipality of Praiano, in the province of Salerno.

The spring cycle featured a predominantly Baroque and classical repertoire, with chamber ensembles of flutes, piccolo, euphonium, violin, and clarinets. The autumn program, which brings music back to the trail during the clearest days of the year, concludes on Saturday, October 24, 2026.
