The king of spring in the heart of the lower Monferrato hills near Turin
The Pea Festival in Casalborgone, a small hillside municipality in the Province of Turin overlooking the lower Monferrato, is one of the oldest and most beloved food festivals in Piedmont. Established in the 1950s to promote local pea cultivation, it reached its 73rd edition in 2026, confirming its status as an unmissable event for those wishing to discover the rural traditions of this corner of Piedmont, just a few kilometers from Turin and Chivasso.
The absolute star of the event is the gogu, a hand-folded agnolotto (or large ravioli) with a delicate filling of fresh peas, sometimes enriched with sausage. Served with butter and sage or meat sauce, the gogu reflects the wisdom of traditional Monferrato home cooking. Alongside this specialty, food stalls offer numerous variations of the seasonal legume: omelets, savory pies, soups, and even the curious pea ice cream, one of the most photographed attractions of the festival.
The festival brings the historic center of Casalborgone to life for an entire weekend, filling the streets and squares of the village. Friday evening marks the opening of the stalls with aperitifs and entertainment; Saturday is dedicated to the main food and wine day with pea-based specialties and live music; while Sunday features the grand market exhibition with local products, crafts, and hobbies in the heart of the village.
Among the novelties accompanying the event is the Pea Rando Tour, a cycle tour for mountain bikes and road bikes that allows participants to explore the hills of the lower Monferrato, combining sport with the discovery of the landscape and local flavors.
Organized by the Pro Loco of Casalborgone in collaboration with the Municipality, the Pea Festival is the ideal opportunity to spend a day in an authentic Piedmontese village, immersed in taste, tradition, and nature.
The 73rd Pea Festival in Casalborgone took place from Friday, May 22 to Sunday, May 24, 2026. Friday evening opened the food stalls with aperitifs and entertainment; Saturday the 23rd was the main day, featuring pea-based specialties and live music. On Sunday the 24th, the market exhibition with local products and crafts was held on Via Gaiato and Piazzale Gaiato, alongside the Pea Rando Tour, the cycle ride through the hills of the lower Monferrato.
Once again this year, the absolute star was the gogu, the agnolotto filled with fresh peas, accompanied by other variations of the seasonal legume. Free admission.
