Four days of tradition, masks, and folklore in the heart of the Canavese region
The Pavone Carnival is one of the most cherished events in Pavone Canavese, a small town in the province of Turin famous for its medieval manor, the Castello di Pavone, which has overlooked the village for centuries. Organized by the Pro Loco of Pavone in collaboration with the Municipal Administration, the Carnival transforms the town's streets and squares for four days into an open-air stage, where tradition and popular participation intertwine in a festive atmosphere that engages both young and old.
The symbolic heart of the festival is the Carnival characters, with the Castellana and the Castellano embodying the spirit and historical memory of the Pavone community. Their presentation from the Town Hall balcony officially opens the celebrations and is one of the most anticipated moments. The Order of the Castellani preserves and passes on this legacy, linking the Carnival to the roots of the Canavese and the charm of the castle that inspired travelers and artists during the Romantic era.
As in many festivals in Piedmont, gastronomy plays a starring role in Pavone Canavese. The fagiolata (bean feast), a signature dish of Canavese carnivals, and the traditional polenta and cod dinner (also available for takeaway) are social occasions that strengthen the sense of community. Admission to all events is free, confirming a festival designed for everyone to enjoy.
Between torchlight processions, dances, parades, and traditional flavors, the Pavone Carnival represents an ideal opportunity to discover the authenticity of the Canavese and the hospitality of a village that turns its Carnival into a moment of collective identity. An event that, year after year, continues to unite past and present in the heart of the province of Turin.
The 2026 edition was held from February 20th to 23rd, with the main events centered in Piazza Falcone.
The Carnival takes place in the center of Pavone Canavese (TO), with events between the Town Hall square and Piazza Falcone, where the pavilion for dance parties and gastronomic events is set up.
By car: Pavone Canavese is located in the Canavese area, a few kilometers from Ivrea, accessible via the A5 Turin-Aosta motorway (Ivrea exit). By train: Ivrea station, well-connected to Turin, is the closest, with onward travel by bus or car.
Admission to the events is free. For the traditional polenta and cod dinner, booking is mandatory in the days prior. Information: Municipality of Pavone Canavese, tel. +39 0125 51009, [email protected]; for parade registration, contact the Pro Loco of Pavone ([email protected]).
