The patronal feast of Baldissero Canavese featuring Piedmontese fritto misto and an autumn chestnut roast
The Saint Martin's Festival is the most cherished autumn event in Baldissero Canavese, a small village in the Metropolitan City of Turin nestled in the rolling hills of the Canavese area, in Piedmont. Saint Martin, Bishop of Tours, is celebrated on November 11th as the village's patron saint. Around this date, the community gathers for two days of festivities organized by the Pro Loco Tourist Association of Baldissero Canavese in collaboration with the local municipal administration.
The most anticipated moment is the Piedmontese Fritto Misto Dinner, held in the evening at the Pro Loco headquarters in Piazza Unità d'Italia, in the heart of the village. Fritto misto is a true classic of Piedmontese cuisine: a succession of sweet and savory bites—meats, vegetables, semolina, amaretti cookies, and fruit—fried individually and served hot. It is a convivial ritual that requires reservations and fills the hall with both locals and visitors from neighboring towns.
On Sunday, the festival continues with a focus on popular traditions. After Holy Mass in honor of the patron saint and social gatherings along the village streets, the traditional Chestnut Roast begins in the afternoon: roasted chestnuts are distributed in the square, accompanied by the typical atmosphere of the Canavese autumn. This is a free event open to everyone, designed for both adults and children.
Baldissero Canavese is a village of a few hundred inhabitants that preserves the authentic identity of small Canavese towns, a land of castles, vineyards, and ancient farming traditions. The Saint Martin's Festival, with its blend of devotion, gastronomy, and social life, is the perfect opportunity to discover this quiet corner of the province of Turin, far from mass tourism circuits, and to experience a village festival just as the locals do.
For 2026, Baldissero Canavese is once again preparing to celebrate its patron saint, Saint Martin. Following the success of previous editions, the Pro Loco will host the Piedmontese Fritto Misto Dinner (by reservation, at the headquarters in Piazza Unità d'Italia) and, on Sunday, Holy Mass followed in the afternoon by the traditional Chestnut Roast in the square.
The final calendar and the complete program with times will be announced by the Pro Loco of Baldissero Canavese via their official website and Facebook page. To book the dinner and receive updates, it is recommended to contact the association directly.
The detailed program for the 2026 edition will be announced by the Pro Loco of Baldissero Canavese in the weeks leading up to the festival. Based on past editions, the traditional structure includes:
