The Celtic village of the Canavese region comes alive through historical re-enactment and experimental archaeology
Every early September, the small town of Settimo Rottaro, in the Province of Turin and in the heart of the Piedmontese Canavese, transforms into an authentic Celtic village. Axa Briga is much more than a simple festival: it is a true theme park dedicated to the Bronze and Iron Ages, where historical re-enactment and experimental archaeology come to life in a green area, just a stone's throw from the evocative Lake Viverone.
The name itself tells a story: "Axa Briga" derives from Gallo-Lepontic and roughly means "city of water" or "water of the heights," a direct homage to the lake and the hills surrounding the village. The event is organized by the Camelot ODV Association, which, through the historical group "Pobal ap Vaud" (the "People born of the Heights"), reconstructs with philological rigor the daily life of a Celtic community in the Canavese area between the 5th and 1st centuries BC.
The festival offers a complete and immersive experience, designed for history buffs and families alike. During the days of the festival, the park is populated by re-enactors from all over Italy and comes alive with numerous activities:
Sponsored by the Municipality of Settimo Rottaro, Axa Briga is now a recognized fixture in the landscape of Italian Celtic festivals and a precious opportunity to rediscover the proto-Celtic roots of Piedmont. The park, on Via Selva, hosts schools and summer camps throughout the year and becomes, during the festival weekend, a meeting point for thousands of curious visitors.
The great strength of the event is its accessibility: admission is free and camping is free, a choice that allows visitors to fully experience the atmosphere, staying to sleep among the encampments and extending the experience into the night, when the village lights up to the rhythm of Celtic music.
The Camelot ODV Association has confirmed the dates for the 2026 edition of Axa Briga: the Celtic village of Settimo Rottaro (TO) will reopen its doors from Friday, September 4 to Sunday, September 6, 2026, in the Via Selva theme park.
As per tradition, visitors can expect a weekend of historical re-enactment in the Celtic encampments, experimental archaeology demonstrations, an artisan market, food stalls, thematic lectures, and evening Celtic music concerts on Friday and Saturday. Admission will be free and free camping will be available.
At the moment, the detailed 2026 program is still in preparation: the musical line-up, the list of lectures, and the schedules for individual activities will be published on the official website axabriga.it and on social channels (@axabriga) in the weeks preceding the event.
The detailed program for the 2026 edition is still in preparation. The Camelot ODV Association will publish the complete musical line-up, the list of lectures, and activity schedules on the official website axabriga.it and on social channels in the weeks leading up to the event.
Based on previous editions, the weekend typically includes: opening of the Celtic village with encampments and re-enactments; experimental archaeology demonstrations (weaving, forging, combat); lectures held by archaeologists and scholars; artisan market and food stalls; evening Celtic music concerts on Friday and Saturday; activities and games for children.
Axa Briga takes place in the theme park at Via Selva 5 in Settimo Rottaro (TO), in the Canavese region. By car, it can be reached from the A5 Turin-Aosta motorway (Albiano d'Ivrea or Ivrea exits) and from the SS228 of Lake Viverone. The nearest train station is Ivrea, on the Chivasso-Aosta line.
Admission to the festival is free. A free camping area is available for those who wish to stay overnight on-site.
We recommend comfortable clothing and shoes suitable for grassy paths. For updated schedules and the final program, it is advisable to check the official website axabriga.it and the Facebook and Instagram social channels (@axabriga).
