About Passitaly

Passitaly is the festival dedicated to Mediterranean passito wines, held in Pantelleria, the Sicilian island in the province of Trapani famous for its natural Passito and its UNESCO-recognized 'alberello' (head-trained) vines. Over several days, the event features wine tours, cellar excursions, tastings of local products, themed dinners in collaboration with Slow Food, and musical and cultural events, fostering a dialogue with other Mediterranean regions that produce sweet wines.

Passitaly, the Mediterranean in a glass

Passitaly - Mediterranean Passito Wine Festival is the food and wine event that celebrates passito wine in Pantelleria, the 'island of the wind' located in the Strait of Sicily, in the province of Trapani. Promoted by the Passitaly in the World Association together with the Municipality of Pantelleria and the Pantelleria eroica winegrowers' association, the festival was created to showcase the island's natural Passito production and place it in dialogue with other great sweet wines of the Mediterranean, from the Malvasia of the Aeolian Islands to French Sauternes and Hungarian Tokaj.

An island, a heroic viticulture

Pantelleria owes its oenological identity to the Pantellerian head-trained vine, recognized by UNESCO as an intangible cultural heritage: a unique agricultural practice, the result of the hard work of farmers who cultivate Zibibbo in small basins dug into the volcanic soil, sheltered from the incessant wind. From these grapes comes the famous Passito di Pantelleria, a precious sweet wine that is the true star of the festival. Passitaly tells the story of this territory through its signature product, in a blend of flavors, nature, tourism, music, and culture.

Wine tours, cellars, and tastings

The program, which is strictly Plastic Free, spans several days and covers all aspects of wine tourism. Visitors can participate in:

  • Wine tours across the territory and cellar excursions to discover local producers;
  • tastings of Passito and typical island products: capers, oregano, olives, oils, and cheeses;
  • themed dinners and gastronomic events in collaboration with Slow Food;
  • the competition dedicated to the best Passito di Pantelleria;
  • naturalistic and historical-cultural itineraries including the Specchio di Venere Lake, the Elephant Rock, the Sesi, and the Barbacane Castle.

The Passitaly Sound Festival

The final phase of the festival comes alive with the Passitaly Sound Festival, the musical event that brings big names in Italian music to the natural stage of the Port of Scauri. In past editions, the festival has hosted prominent artists such as Irene Grandi, Max Gazzรจ, and Carmen Consoli, with free-entry concerts overlooking the sea.

Pantelleria, a wine tourism destination

Located in the heart of the Mediterranean, Pantelleria is a destination that combines wine, landscape, and tradition. Passitaly is the ideal opportunity to discover the island outside the beach season, immersed in vineyards, among 'dammusi' stone houses and the scents of the Mediterranean scrub, in one of the most authentic food and wine experiences in Sicily.
