An evening of flavor and music in Piazza Grande, Scauri, on the island of Pantelleria
This edition has not been confirmed by the organiser to date. We recommend checking before going.
The Pasqualora Sausage Festival is one of the most beloved gastronomic events of the Pantelleria summer. It takes place in the picturesque Piazza Grande in Scauri, one of the most characteristic villages in the Municipality of Pantelleria, in the Province of Trapani, at the southwestern tip of Sicily. Established in 2021 and organized by the Associazione Crescere Insieme APS, the festival has grown year after year to become a landmark for the local community and the many tourists who choose the 'Island of the Wind' in the height of summer.
At the heart of the festival is the pasqualora sausage, a traditional cured meat from Western Sicily recognized as a Traditional Agri-food Product (P.A.T.). Its name stems from the ancient custom of preserving cuts of pork butchered during Holy Week, around Easter, to be enjoyed in the summer months. It is a pure pork sausage seasoned with sea salt, pepper, white wine, and the ingredient that makes it unmistakable: wild fennel seeds, which give it an intense and fragrant aroma. Grilled over charcoal, it releases all the authentic flavor of the Sicilian peasant tradition.
Alongside the sausage, the festival offers the chance to taste other island delicacies. The bacio pantesco, the iconic dessert of Pantelleria, consists of two crispy wafers filled with fresh ricotta cream, while the renowned Passito di Pantelleria, a sweet wine made from sun-dried Zibibbo grapes, accompanies the evening with its amber sweetness. There are also stalls featuring local products that showcase the island's rich culinary heritage.
The Pasqualora Sausage Festival is about more than just taste: the evening is enlivened by live music that turns Piazza Grande into a vibrant party venue. In recent editions, the audience has danced and sung along with local bands like I Pentatonici, in a convivial atmosphere that brings together residents and visitors alike. It is the perfect opportunity to discover the most authentic soul of Pantelleria, where gastronomic tradition intertwines with music and island hospitality.
Attending the festival is also a way to experience Pantelleria beyond the sea: the Island of the Wind offers volcanic landscapes, stone dammusi, the Mirror of Venus lake, and a cuisine with unique Mediterranean influences. The village of Scauri, with its small harbor and authentic atmosphere, is the ideal setting for an evening that celebrates taste, tradition, and community.
The Pasqualora Sausage Festival is expected to return in the summer of 2026 to Piazza Grande in Scauri, Pantelleria. Previous editions have taken place in July, in the evening. At the moment, the organizers from the Associazione Crescere Insieme APS have not yet communicated the official date or the program for the 2026 edition. As per tradition, the tasting of pasqualora sausage with wild fennel, bacio pantesco, and Passito di Pantelleria is expected, accompanied by live music. Information will be updated as soon as it is released by the Municipality of Pantelleria.
