The Pantelleria village festival featuring traditional games, music, and tastings in Piazza Cavour
In the heart of summer, when the island of Pantelleria glows with light and wind, the community gathers for the SS. Peter and Paul Village Festival. The event takes place in Piazza Cavour, the town square in the heart of the Municipality of Pantelleria, in the Province of Trapani, within the most authentic and insular part of Sicily. It is organized by the La Mulattiera association, a local reference point for this type of popular entertainment, which every year creates a program designed to unite both adults and children.
The festival is dedicated to the apostles Peter and Paul, two of the most celebrated figures in the Catholic calendar, and preserves the essence of a village festival: a time when the entire town comes together in the square. The afternoon is dedicated to traditional games, authentic fragments of island memory, featuring sack races, pignate, spicy spaghetti eating contests, and tug-of-war. Participation spots are limited and registration is handled directly by the organizers; it is the most lighthearted and anticipated part of the day, involving children, families, and many curious onlookers.
After the games, it is time for conviviality, with the awarding of prizes and tastings of typical local products offered by local wineries and producers: a perfect opportunity to savor Pantescan flavors in a festive atmosphere. As evening falls, the square transforms into an open-air stage: live music from a band accompanies the main hours of the night, before the DJ set gets the crowd dancing until late.
Pantelleria is the largest volcanic island in Sicily, suspended between Africa and Europe, famous for its dammusi, Zibibbo wine, and constant wind. In this context, village festivals like the one for SS. Peter and Paul represent a precious piece of local identity: moments when the island community, often far from major routes, reconnects with its roots. Participating means coming into contact with the most genuine side of Pantelleria, made of hospitality, flavors, and traditions passed down from generation to generation.
The 2026 SS. Peter and Paul Village Festival will be held on June 28 in Piazza Cavour, Pantelleria. The day begins at 4:30 PM with traditional island games, followed by a convivial moment and the award ceremony. The evening continues with music and dancing in the heart of the town.
The 2026 edition will be held on Sunday, June 28, 2026, in Piazza Cavour, in the center of Pantelleria. Traditional games begin at 4:30 PM, live music at 9:30 PM, and the DJ set from 11:30 PM.
Pantelleria can be reached by plane with flights to the island's airport from Trapani, Palermo, and other hubs, or by sea via ferries from Trapani. Piazza Cavour is located in the town center of Pantelleria and is easily accessible on foot from the port.
The event in the square is free to attend. Spots for the traditional games are limited: to register, you must contact the organizers of the La Mulattiera association.
