The festival celebrating the seafood of Mazara del Vallo and the world-famous Red Prawn
This edition has not been confirmed by the organiser to date. We recommend checking before going.
Mazara del Pesce – International Gastronomy Festival is the event that brings the taste and culture of the sea to the historic center of Mazara del Vallo, in the province of Trapani. Overlooking the Strait of Sicily, the city has been one of the Mediterranean's fishing capitals for centuries: its port and fishing fleet have made the Gambero Rosso of Mazara famous worldwide, making it the absolute star of the festival.
During the event, the ancient heart of the city comes alive with food and wine stalls set up along a route connecting the main squares, from Piazza Santa Caterina to Piazza Santa Veneranda, passing through Piazza della Repubblica and Piazza del Plebiscito. Here, visitors can taste the specialties of the local maritime tradition: fried fish, arancine, fish couscous, gourmet sandwiches, and many other delicacies prepared with the daily catch.
Beyond gastronomy, Mazara del Pesce offers a rich calendar of side events: evening concerts, dance and street performances, educational activities related to the marine environment and fishing, boat tours, conferences dedicated to the relationship between the city and the sea, and charity initiatives. The event thus combines food with cultural and identity-focused experiences, highlighting the maritime heritage of Western Sicily.
Created to celebrate the excellence of the local catch and the history of Mazara del Vallo, the festival involves local associations, restaurateurs, and operators, turning the historic center into a large festive space open to residents and tourists alike. It is an opportunity to discover a city with Arab-Norman roots, wandering through alleys, churches, and the picturesque Kasbah district, while experiencing the authentic flavor of the Sicilian sea.
The 2026 edition of Mazara del Pesce is scheduled for June in the historic center of Mazara del Vallo. At the moment, the dates for the 2026 edition have not yet been announced and the program has not been published. We are awaiting official confirmation from the organizers, who have expressed their intention to repeat the event following its 2025 debut. For updated information, we recommend checking the official website and the channels of the Municipality of Mazara del Vallo.
Mazara del Vallo can be reached by car via the A29 Palermo–Mazara del Vallo motorway. By train, the city is served by the Palermo–Trapani–Castelvetrano line. The nearest airports are Trapani-Birgi and Palermo Falcone-Borsellino.
Access to the event is free. Tastings at the food stalls are paid, generally using a token system. Some activities and conferences may require prior booking.
We recommend experiencing the festival in the evening, when the historic center is pedestrianized and the squares come alive with music and shows. Don't miss a visit to the Kasbah and the Dancing Satyr Museum.
