The neighbourhood festival celebrating trout in the Paderno district of Udine
The Paderno Trout Festival is one of those events where the strong neighbourhood spirit is still palpable. It takes place in the parish courtyard of Paderno, a district north of Udine, and was born from the passion of the Pro Loco Paderno volunteers, who each year bring to life two weekends in May with a programme full of flavour, tradition, and socialising.
The signature dish is, of course, trout, farmed and cooked in numerous ways by the Pro Loco chefs: grilled, baked, marinated. Alongside the fish, there are also grilled meats and other food stalls, offering something to please all palates. The district's connection with the Udine Canal, the waterway that runs through Paderno, gives the festival its distinctive character.
The festival is much more than a local fair: during the event days, there is live music, photographic exhibitions dedicated to the history of Paderno, fishing demonstrations and competitions on the canal, vintage bicycle rides, Tai Chi lessons, and exhibitions by the University of the Third Age. A diverse programme that involves families, the elderly, and children, promoting participation and volunteerism.
Promoted with the support of the Municipality of Udine, the Trout Festival is one of the most beloved events by the neighbourhood and by the people of Friuli who return each year to gather in the parish courtyard. For those who want to discover the most genuine side of Udine, far from the tourist trails, it is a perfect opportunity to savour local cuisine and the hospitality of the neighbourhood.
The 15th edition of the Paderno Trout Festival returns to the neighbourhood's parish courtyard for two weekends in May 2026: the 22nd-24th and 29th-31st. Once again this year, Pro Loco Paderno volunteers are offering trout in numerous preparations, barbecued meats, and food stalls, accompanied by live music on the evenings.
The programme alternates the conviviality of the stalls with activities that make this neighbourhood festival unique: the photographic exhibition on the history of Paderno, fishing competitions and demonstrations on the Udine Canal, vintage bicycle rides, and events for families and children.
The festival is spread over two weekends (May 22-24 and 29-31) with evening opening of the food stalls and, on public holidays, also at lunchtime. Scheduled events include: trout in various preparations and barbecues, live music in the evenings, a photographic exhibition on the history of the district, fishing competitions and demonstrations on the Udine Canal, vintage bicycle rides, Tai Chi lessons, a charity fishing event, and activities for children.
The detailed programme with times and musical evenings will be published by Pro Loco Paderno in the weeks preceding the event.
