A night of flavors in Sticciano, part of the Spring in Roccastrada festival
In the heart of the Grosseto Maremma, the village of Sticciano Scalo (Municipality of Roccastrada, Province of Grosseto, Tuscany) hosts "Not Just Strozzapreti", an evening entirely dedicated to local food and wine. Organized by the Pro Loco of Sticciano, the event takes place at the multi-purpose center on Via Vecchia, offering a tasting of local specialties in a warm and welcoming village-fair atmosphere.
The stars of the evening are, naturally, the strozzapreti, one of the most authentic pastas in the Maremma tradition. This is a "peasant" pasta, handmade with water and flour, with an elongated shape reminiscent of thick pici, served with savory sauces. Its curious name is rooted in the peasant cooking of the past, when this simple and hearty dish reflected the hard work and ingenuity of local families. Alongside the strozzapreti, the evening highlights other gastronomic excellences of the area.
"Not Just Strozzapreti" is about more than just food: the tasting is accompanied by children's activities, an art exhibition, and a dance party that brings the village to life until late. It is a convivial occasion that brings residents and visitors together around the flavors and traditions of Sticciano.
The event is part of the "Spring in Roccastrada: the territory and its flavors" series, promoted by the Municipality of Roccastrada in collaboration with the local Pro Loco associations. The series enlivens the spring season—traditionally quieter for events—with festivals, food fairs, and gastronomic walks that traverse the various villages of the municipality, from Ribolla to Roccatederighi, and from Torniella to the main town of Roccastrada. The goal is to promote local excellence and provide concrete support to the agricultural and productive activities of the Maremma.
