The open-air contemporary art museum in the heart of Chianti
Radda Arte is a contemporary art festival that turns the medieval village of Radda in Chianti, in the Province of Siena, into an authentic open-air museum. Promoted by the Radda Estate d'Arte APS association, chaired by Barbara Widmer, the event builds on the experience gained with Panzano Arte in 2019, renewing the encounter between art and landscape in the Chianti Classico territory. Along the alleys, in the squares, and inside the town's sacred buildings, the artworks integrate into the community's daily spaces, inviting visitors to discover every corner of the village.
The first edition, running from June 6 to September 20, 2026, is entirely dedicated to Sergio Fiorentino, a painter and sculptor born in Catania in 1973 and now based in Noto, whose work is defined by its unmistakable Mediterranean ultramarine blue. The exhibition, curated by Mila Sturm, features large-scale prints, monumental installations, and sculptures along the main street of Radda, while the nine sculptures from the Segreti series are displayed in front of the Church of San Niccolò. A gallery in the town center hosts large-scale works, sculptural furniture, and vases from the artist's studio in Noto.
The exhibition route extends to the Church of Santa Maria Novella, located a few kilometers from the center towards Volpaia, within the Pieve Aldina complex. Here, large paintings of saints by Fiorentino are on display, while monumental drapes reproducing his works flutter on the ancient exterior walls. In the evening, the experience becomes even more evocative: the bell towers of San Niccolò and Santa Maria Novella are illuminated in blue, giving the Chianti landscape a suspended, Mediterranean atmosphere.
A significant part of the project involves students from the Duccio di Buoninsegna Art High School in Siena, who created twenty-three posters on the theme Blue: Fiorentino and I between February and June 2026, which are displayed on the town's notice boards. It is a way to root the festival in the local area and introduce younger generations to contemporary art.
Visiting Radda Arte means crossing one of the most fascinating villages in Tuscany's wine country, where contemporary culture meets the hills, vineyards, and cypresses of Chianti. The event is sponsored by the Municipality of Radda in Chianti and the Tuscany Region, with the support of the Fondazione Caris as the main sponsor. Admission to the open-air route is free and accessible to everyone, every day from 11:00 AM to 7:00 PM.
The inaugural edition of Radda Arte, which opened on June 5 and is open to the public from June 6 to September 20, 2026, brings the work of painter and sculptor Sergio Fiorentino to the village of Radda in Chianti. Curated by Mila Sturm and organized by Radda Estate d'Arte APS, the exhibition accompanies the visitor through monumental installations, sculptures, and large paintings dominated by the artist's ultramarine blue, with evening lighting of the bell towers and the extension towards the Church of Santa Maria Novella.
