In the heart of the Pisan Valdarno, the Municipality of Montopoli in Val d'Arno (Province of Pisa, Tuscany) celebrates one of its most precious treasures every year with "Nero a Montopoli – Walks and Flavours of Black Truffle". The festival, promoted by the Municipality in collaboration with the Arco di Castruccio Association and involving local associations, merchants, and producers, focuses on the summer black truffle, a product that grows spontaneously in the local woods and has become a true symbol of the Montopoli community over the years.
Three souls, one festival
The calendar is divided into three complementary strands, designed to showcase the truffle from every perspective:
- On the trail of the black truffle — nature walks to discover the landscape and environments where this prized product is born, including the famous "Black Truffle Loop".
- Nero at the table — tasting evenings and show cooking with local chefs, accompanied by musical entertainment.
- The restaurant circuit — throughout the summer, participating venues offer special dishes and menus based on black truffle.
Nature, science, and partnerships
"Nero a Montopoli" is not just about gastronomy: the festival combines the pleasure of dining with biodiversity protection and scientific research, thanks to the collaboration with the University of Pisa and the National Association of Truffle Cities, of which Montopoli is a member. Particularly significant is the ideal twinning with Norcia, the Umbrian capital of black truffle, which testifies to the value of a national network dedicated to this product.
An event for everyone
The walks start from the hamlets of the Municipality — such as Casteldelbosco, meeting at Piazza Capponi — while the gastronomic evenings enliven the terrace of the Hotel Quattro Gigli, in the charming historic centre of Montopoli. Between a dawn walk and a sunset dinner, the festival invites residents and visitors to discover a corner of Tuscany where rural tradition, respect for the environment, and quality cuisine coexist in perfect harmony.
Nero a Montopoli — edition 2026
The 2026 festival opens with the "On the trail of the black truffle" walks and continues with the "Nero at the table" evenings and themed menus in local restaurants throughout the summer. The collaboration with the University of Pisa, the National Association of Truffle Cities, and the bond with Norcia are confirmed. Among the year's novelties is the presentation of the NEROMONTOPOLI sandwich, made with sausage, black truffle, and local ingredients.

Sunday, June 7 — Black Truffle Loop
- 9:30 AM — Nature walk "Black Truffle Loop" starting from Piazza Capponi in Casteldelbosco.
Thursday, June 11 — Nero at the table
- From 7:30 PM — "Nero at the table – Wine and food on the terrace" evening at the Hotel Quattro Gigli terrace, with tastings, show cooking, music, and family entertainment. Free admission with limited seating. Proposals include: the new NEROMONTOPOLI sandwich (by Norcineria Marianelli and Panificio Ostacolo), black truffle pizza, San Matteo dessert, and a selection of local wines.
Friday, June 19 — Night walk
- Evening walk on the trail of the black truffle.
Thursday, July 16 — Nero at the table
- 7:00 PM — Second show cooking appointment on the Hotel Quattro Gigli terrace, with musical entertainment.
July and August — The restaurant circuit
- In participating local restaurants, it is possible to enjoy special dishes and menus dedicated to black truffle.

Where

By car: from the FI-PI-LI motorway, take the Montopoli/San Romano exit. By train: the San Romano-Montopoli-Santa Croce station is on the Florence–Pisa line, just a few minutes from the centre. The nearest airport is Pisa Galileo Galilei.
