Three evenings of flavors, tradition, and live music in the heart of the Colline Metallifere
In the village of Monterotondo Marittimo, perched among the woods and thermal springs of the Colline Metallifere in the province of Grosseto, the Tortello Maremmano Festival has been a summer staple for over half a century. Organized by the Pro Loco of Monterotondo Marittimo, the event transforms the Pista ai Castagni festival area into a large, convivial gathering where Maremma's culinary tradition takes center stage.
The dish that gives the festival its name is the tortello maremmano, a pasta filled with ricotta and greens (spinach or chard), hand-prepared by the skilled volunteers of the Pro Loco according to the timeless recipe. You can enjoy it in its most popular variations: with meat ragรน, butter and sage, or the unmistakable walnut sauce. Alongside the tortelli, the menu features penne with tomato or meat sauce and a rich selection of rustic Maremma dishes cooked to order.
Meat lovers will find the Maremma grill in all its glory: grilled steaks, sausages, pork ribs, and mixed grills, accompanied by French fries and seasonal side dishes. There is also no shortage of vegetable savory pies, cold dishes, fresh fruit, and homemade traditional desserts to round off the meal. All at affordable prices, in the authentic spirit of local village festivals.
The Tortello Festival is not just about good food: every evening, the festival area comes alive with live dance music, drawing both young and old to the dance floor. For families and younger visitors, there is also a fairground, while the atmosphere remains the genuine and welcoming one of a community that has been welcoming visitors from all over Tuscany for generations.
The festival is also the perfect excuse to explore Monterotondo Marittimo and its surroundings, a land of geothermal energy, fumaroles, springs, and the white "biancane" formations that have made the Parco delle Biancane famous. A visit to the festival thus becomes a journey into the most authentic heart of the Grosseto Maremma, between age-old flavors and unique landscapes.
The 54th Tortello Maremmano Festival returns to Monterotondo Marittimo from Friday, June 26 to Sunday, June 28, 2026, confirming its status as one of the longest-running and most popular events in the Grosseto Maremma. The festival, organized by the Pro Loco of Monterotondo Marittimo, takes place as tradition dictates at the Pista ai Castagni festival area, where the local community welcomes visitors every evening with its typical dishes.
The detailed evening schedule of the bands will be announced by the Pro Loco in the weeks leading up to the event.
The festival takes place at the Pista ai Castagni (festival area, Viale Guido Rossa) in Monterotondo Marittimo (GR), postcode 58025. Food stalls open for dinner starting at 7:00 PM every evening.
Admission to the festival area is free. You only pay for what you consume at the stalls, at affordable prices.
By car: Monterotondo Marittimo can be reached via the SS398 road in the direction of the Colline Metallifere; it is about an hour from Grosseto and Follonica. The nearest train station is Follonica, on the Tyrrhenian line, from where you can continue by car or local connections.
