The amateur Bagnet Verd competition in the heart of the Casale Monferrato area
The Monferrato Cuisine Grand Prix is hosted in Camino, a municipality in the Province of Alessandria overlooking the hills of Monferrato, in Piedmont. The first edition, dedicated to Bagnet Verdโthe iconic green sauce of Piedmontese cuisineโtransforms the village into a flavor arena where teams of enthusiasts compete to craft one of the region's most beloved recipes.
Bagnet verd (or green sauce) is a cold sauce made from parsley, garlic, anchovies, breadcrumbs, vinegar, and oil, traditionally served with Piedmontese boiled meats. In Camino, it becomes the absolute star of an amateur competition that rewards balance, technique, and faithfulness to tradition. Entries are evaluated anonymously by a panel of experts to ensure an impartial judgment.
The event is part of the broader Golosaria tra i Castelli del Monferrato, which celebrates its twentieth edition in 2026, involving dozens of municipalities across the provinces of Alessandria and Asti. For Camino, it is an opportunity to showcase its local products and hilly landscape during a weekend entirely dedicated to the region's food and wine.
Following the awards ceremony and lunch featuring local specialties, the afternoon continues with a free guided walk through vineyards, olive groves, and hazelnut orchards, exploring the agricultural landscape of the Casale Monferrato area. It is a perfect way to experience the village of Camino beyond the table, surrounded by nature and rural tradition.
The day opened at 9:30 AM with team registration at Via Roma 37 in Camino. At 10:00 AM, the competition began: 90 minutes to prepare the Bagnet Verd, with three identical portions presented to the jury. At 11:30 AM, the tasting and awards ceremony took place, with anonymous evaluation of the entries. Following this, at 12:30 PM, lunch was served featuring local products. In the afternoon, at 3:00 PM, a free walk through vineyards, olive groves, and hazelnut orchards completed the experience in the Casale Monferrato area.
Camino can be reached by car from the Casale Monferrato Sud exit (A26), continuing along the hilly roads of Monferrato. The nearest train station is Casale Monferrato, from which you can continue by car or local connections.
Registration fee: โฌ10 per team (2 to 4 people). Pre-registration is mandatory by May 15th. The afternoon walk is free and does not require a reservation.
