Two weekends of Mugello flavors in the medieval village of Scarperia
The Mixed Fried Food, Tortello and Grilled Meat Festival is an unmissable spring appointment in Scarperia e San Piero, in the province of Florence, nestled in the green heart of the Mugello. For two weekends in April, the Circolo MCL on Via San Martino 16 transforms into a lively gathering spot where you can savor the most authentic flavors of Tuscan cuisine, wrapped in the convivial, family-friendly atmosphere that is the true soul of local village festivals.
The absolute star is the Tuscan mixed fry—crispy and fragrant—featuring seasonal meats and vegetables fried according to ancient traditions. Alongside it, you will find the famous handmade Mugello potato tortelli, a signature first course of this land. The menu is completed by Tuscan crostini, polenta, fresh vegetables, and succulent grilled meat, cooked over the coals with the care of those who know the perfect timing. Most ingredients are sourced from the Mugello area, ensuring freshness and authenticity.
The festival is also an excellent excuse to discover Scarperia, listed among the Most Beautiful Villages in Italy and famous for its centuries-old tradition of knifemaking. During the event, the Palazzo dei Vicari, a splendid 14th-century building, and the Knife Museum remain open: by presenting your festival receipt, you can access the museums at a reduced rate—an invitation to combine gastronomy with culture.
The event spans two weekends: on Saturdays, the food stand opens for dinner starting at 7:00 PM, while on Sundays, you can enjoy lunch from 12:00 PM and dinner from 7:00 PM. The organization is managed by the Pro Loco Scarperia, which has been committed to promoting local traditions and food culture for years.
Among the hills that divide Florence from the Tuscan-Emilian Apennines, this festival represents a genuine way to experience the most authentic Tuscany: simple and flavorful dishes, warm hospitality, and a village rich in history to explore before or after your meal.
For the 2026 edition, Pro Loco Scarperia reopened the food stand during the two central weeks of April, with openings on Saturday evenings from 7:00 PM and Sundays for lunch from 12:00 PM and dinner from 7:00 PM.
The menu confirmed the great classics of Mugello cuisine: Tuscan mixed fry, handmade potato tortelli, crostini, polenta, vegetables, and grilled meat, using mostly local ingredients. Once again this year, by presenting the receipt, it was possible to visit the Palazzo dei Vicari and the Knife Museum at a reduced rate.
