The Christmas market in the heart of San Francesco di Pelago
The San Francesco Christmas Fair is one of the most cherished events in the winter calendar of Pelago, a municipality in the province of Florence overlooking the hills of the Tuscan Valdarno. Every year, on the Feast of the Immaculate Conception on December 8th, the hamlet of San Francesco rings in the Christmas season with a day entirely dedicated to the market, local traditions, and village conviviality.
The event is organized by Pro Loco Pelago APS in collaboration with the Municipality of Pelago and brings the center of the hamlet to life from morning until evening. Piazza Verdi and the surrounding streets fill with stalls, scents, and sounds: it is the moment when the community gathers to celebrate the start of the holiday season together.
At the heart of the event is the Christmas market, featuring exhibitors offering gift ideas, handicrafts, decorations, sweets, and local products from the region. Between the stalls, there is no shortage of music and carols to accompany your stroll through the festive booths.
The Christmas Fair is designed especially for families and children. Throughout the day, activities and games are held for the little ones, including a children's market along Via IV Novembre and Christmas-themed workshops. There are also moments dedicated to the hamlet's religious traditions, with carols and the solemn Mass of the Immaculate Conception in the church of San Francesco.
Visiting the Christmas Fair is also a great opportunity to discover San Francesco di Pelago and the surrounding area. Pelago is located just a few kilometers from Pontassieve and the outskirts of Florence, in a hilly region rich in villages, parish churches, and classic Tuscan landscapes. The fair thus combines the simplicity of a village festival with the charm of an authentic corner of Tuscany, far from the main tourist circuits yet close to the regional capital.
The San Francesco Christmas Fair returns on December 8th, 2026, in the hamlet of Pelago, in the province of Florence. The day, organized by Pro Loco Pelago APS with the Municipality of Pelago, will feature the traditional Christmas market in Piazza Verdi with stalls, local products, gift ideas, music, and activities for children.
The official calendar of the Pro Loco confirms the date, while the detailed program (schedules, children's market, religious moments, and activities for the little ones) will be announced closer to the event.
The detailed program for the 2026 edition will be published by Pro Loco Pelago in the weeks preceding December 8th.
Based on recent editions, the day typically unfolds as follows:
