Two days of music, flavours, and traditions in a Nebrodi village
The Mistretta Spring Festival is a recently established event that has already become a cherished tradition for the community of this charming village in the Nebrodi Mountains, in the heart of the province of Messina. Mistretta, also known by its local dialect name of Amastra, sits at an altitude of about 900 metres and is one of the most picturesque towns in the Nebrodi Park, featuring a stone-paved historic centre, noble palaces, and ancient churches. The festival was created to celebrate the arrival of spring by combining music, gastronomy, nature, and local heritage.
The event spans two days, transforming the town centre into a vibrant hub of celebration. The heart of the festivities is Piazza San Felice, where stalls are set up for tasting local products and specialities, while the municipal gardens host entertainment and activities. The programme features street bands, local folk group performances, evening live music, and plenty of family-friendly activities.
The Spring Festival pays special attention to younger visitors, offering bouncy castles, pony rides, balloons, candy floss, and creative workshops. It is a wonderful opportunity to experience the town in a festive, open-air setting, strolling among the stalls and enjoying the mild climate of an Amastratina spring.
The festival is also an invitation to discover the natural heritage surrounding Mistretta. Featured destinations include Lake Quattrocchi and the nearby waterfalls, perfect for excursions to explore the flora and fauna of the Nebrodi. Past editions have included guided tours of museums and historic districts, nature hikes, and horseback riding, highlighting the deep bond between the event and the territory.
The Spring Festival is organised by the Municipality of Mistretta with the involvement of local associations, who bring the days to life with shows, stalls, and cultural initiatives. It has become a highly anticipated date for residents and visitors alike, showcasing the identity of Mistretta and the rich food, wine, and landscapes of this corner of Sicily.
The second edition of the Mistretta Spring Festival was held on the weekend of 17 and 18 May 2026, confirming the success of the event. The town centre transformed into a large festival space, with Piazza San Felice serving as the main hub for stalls offering local products and specialities.
Saturday featured the inauguration of the floral barriers (Fidapa project), performances by the Blue Star Street Band, shows by the Amastra folk group, and an evening live set by Radio Indie. Sunday continued with performances by the Skaricamu Band and a show by Bebo and Erica Contorno. For children, there were bouncy castles, ponies, balloons, and candy floss.
Mistretta is located in the inland area of the province of Messina, in the Nebrodi Mountains. By car, it can be reached via the A20 Messina-Palermo motorway, taking the Santo Stefano di Camastra exit and continuing inland along the SS117. The reference railway station on the coast is Santo Stefano di Camastra-Mistretta.
The event takes place in spring, between late April and mid-May, over a full weekend (Saturday and Sunday).
Admission to the event is free. Tastings at the stalls are paid.
Take advantage of your visit to explore the historic centre of Mistretta, Lake Quattrocchi, and the Nebrodi waterfalls. At an altitude of about 900 metres, spring evenings can be cool: bring a warm layer for the evening.
