A celebration of the ciramisi pepper and cavatieddu atturratu in the heart of the Nebrodi mountains
The Cerami Typical Products Festival 'Pipi e Cavatieddi' is one of the most cherished events on the gastronomic calendar of Cerami, a small village in the province of Enna nestled on the southern slopes of the Nebrodi mountains. Every late September, the historic center transforms into a culinary trail where local associations, supported by the Municipality, welcome visitors from across Sicily to rediscover the authentic flavors of Cerami's peasant traditions.
The festival takes its name from two iconic local products. The first is 'u pipi ciramisi, a local pepper with a characteristic horn shape and dark green color, grown in the village fields and used in traditional recipes, often dried and preserved for winter. The second is the cavatieddu atturratu, a homemade pastry made from an ancient recipe: a biscuit prepared with flour, eggs, and sugar, covered in atturruโa mix of toasted almonds, cinnamon, and sugarโand traditionally dipped in warm sweetened water.
Food stalls are set up along the streets of the historic center, offering tastings of local dishes and regional products. The festival combines its culinary focus with a rich entertainment program:
More than just a food festival, the Pipi e Cavatieddi Festival is a moment to promote folk traditions and the identity of Cerami. The event, which is free and held outdoors, offers a chance to discover an authentic corner of inland Sicily, far from the main tourist circuits, immersed in the Nebrodi landscape and the warm hospitality of the Cerami community.
The new edition of the Pipi e Cavatieddi Festival returns to Cerami on September 27 and 28, 2026, confirming the late September appointment dedicated to the village's gastronomic excellence. As per tradition, the historic center will host stalls featuring tastings of the ciramisi pepper and the cavatieddu atturratu pastry, accompanied by folk performances, live music, and entertainment for all ages.
The full program with times and guests will be announced by the organizers closer to the event. For updates, it is recommended to follow the channels of the Municipality of Cerami.
Cerami is located in central-northern Sicily, in the province of Enna, on the Nebrodi side. By car, it can be reached via the SS117 and SS120; the nearest airports are Catania-Fontanarossa and Palermo. The closest train station is in Catania, from where you can continue by car or local bus.
