Two days of flavor and tradition in the village of Lucolena, nestled between the Municipality of Greve in Chianti and the Florentine Chianti hills.
Some festivals are born to showcase a product and end up showcasing an entire village. This is the case for the Schiacciata with Olive Oil Festival in Lucolena, a small hamlet nestled in the hills of the Municipality of Greve in Chianti, in the province of Florence, in the heart of Tuscany. For one weekend in June, the village transforms into a large open-air dining room, where the absolute star is the Tuscan schiacciata, fragrant with olive oil.
The secret of the festival lies in its simplicity. The schiacciata is kneaded and baked on the spot, right before the visitors' eyes, and served hot for both lunch and dinner. You can enjoy it in its most classic version, lightly drizzled with extra virgin olive oil, or filled with various ingredients, including some more gourmet options. It is a humble, ancient food linked to the farming culture of Chianti, which here regains all its dignity as an iconic local dish.
Surrounding the food area, the streets of Lucolena are filled with activities designed for all ages. Highlights of the two-day event include:
The atmosphere is that of the intimate, familiar Chianti villages, where you can gather among stone houses and the cool breeze of the hills, far from the crowds of major events.
Promoted by the Pro Loco Lucolena with the patronage of the Municipality of Greve in Chianti, the festival is now a well-established fixture of the Chianti summer calendar: in 2026, it reaches its eleventh edition. It has become a precious occasion for the local community, which self-funds the event to keep the hamlet's identity alive, while also serving as an invitation for visitors to discover a more authentic and popular side of the Chianti region.
Between a slice of schiacciata and a glass of Chianti wine, the Lucolena festival is the ideal way to combine gastronomy, walks through the vineyards, and direct contact with village life. A simple and tasty experience, perfect for families, couples, and groups of friends in search of the truest Tuscany.
