The summer festival of music, performances, and street food in the heart of Chianti
Summer in Greve in Chianti is the summer festival organized by the Municipality of Greve in Chianti, the tourist hub of the Florentine Chianti in the province of Florence, Tuscany. From mid-June to late August, the historic center of the village transforms into a widespread stage: over twenty free events fill the evenings with live music, shows, concerts, and culinary offerings, enlivening the squares and streets of the town until late at night.
The program, curated by the Tourism and Culture departments, is intentionally eclectic and spans many genres: from pop to rock, jazz to classical, opera to tango, as well as folk music and singer-songwriter performances. Among the most anticipated events is the Greve Sunday Jazz Festival, featuring evenings that host prominent musicians from the Italian jazz scene such as Stefano Cocco Cantini, Ares Tavolazzi, and Ferruccio Spinetti. There is no shortage of opera concerts, with the Belcanto in Tuscany festival and the Greve Opera Academy, as well as singer-songwriter performances.
The events take place in the village's iconic locations: Piazza Matteotti, the famous triangular porticoed square that serves as the living room of Greve, Piazza Vassallo, the charming Piazzetta di Santa Croce, and the streets of the historic center. Most concerts begin in the evening, around 9:15 PM, when the summer temperature invites everyone to enjoy the town squares outdoors.
Experiencing Summer in Greve in Chianti also means discovering one of the most representative villages of the Chianti Classico region: a land of vineyards, historic cellars, and Tuscan food and wine traditions. The festival is the ideal opportunity to combine a vacation in the Chianti hills with evenings of music and conviviality in the heart of Tuscany, in a setting that is entirely free and accessible to everyone.
The 2026 edition of Summer in Greve in Chianti confirms its long-running format: from mid-June to late August, the village squares host concerts, performances, and gastronomic evenings, all with free admission.
The program alternates between different genres: the Greve Sunday Jazz Festival with prestigious musicians such as Stefano Cocco Cantini, Ares Tavolazzi, and Ferruccio Spinetti; opera concerts by Belcanto in Tuscany and the Greve Opera Academy; tango evenings, singer-songwriter music, and folk music. There are also family events with "Il paese dei balocchi" and street food evenings in Piazza Matteotti.
Street food evenings organized by the "Le Botteghe di Greve" Natural Shopping Center on several dates of the festival. Full program on ingreveinchianti.it.
Greve in Chianti can be reached by car via the SR222 "Chiantigiana" road, which connects Florence to Siena, about 30 km from both cities. By train, the reference station is Firenze Santa Maria Novella, from which you can continue with suburban buses towards the Chianti region.
All festival events are free of charge. Most evening concerts start around 9:15 PM, while street food and family activities take place from the late afternoon.
We recommend arriving early to find a spot in the historic squares and combining your evening with a visit to the nearby Chianti Classico wineries.
