Artisan Christmas markets across Greve and the villages of the Florentine Chianti
Every year, as December arrives, the Municipality of Greve in Chianti (Metropolitan City of Florence, Tuscany) brings to life a calendar of Christmas markets spread across the main town and its most characteristic villages. Rather than a single large fair, it is a series of travelling events that allow you to discover, one Sunday after another, the festively decorated local hamlets: from the medieval core of Montefioralle, considered one of the most beautiful in Italy, to the renowned Panzano in Chianti, and on to Strada in Chianti and the central Piazza Matteotti in Greve, recognizable by its unique triangular shape and the statue of Giovanni da Verrazzano.
The markets are reserved for artisans and hobbyists who create their own Christmas-themed crafts. Strolling along the stalls, you can find:
The travelling format is the hallmark of this event: instead of concentrating everything in one place, the Greve in Chianti Christmas markets take turns animating the squares of the various hamlets, turning every Sunday and holiday in December into an opportunity to visit a different corner of the territory. The markets are often accompanied by other Christmas initiatives in the Municipality, from the lighting of the large tree in Piazza Matteotti to the arrival of Santa Claus, as well as concerts in churches and musical entertainment through the town center.
Experiencing the Christmas markets here means combining artisanal shopping with the winter landscape of Chianti, among hills, vineyards, and historic villages. It is the ideal occasion for those seeking an authentic, small-town Christmas, far from the crowds of big cities, yet only a few kilometers from Florence. Admission to the markets is free for all visitors.
The 2026 edition of the Greve in Chianti Christmas markets consists of five events distributed between the main town and the villages, each dedicated to artisans and hobbyists who create their own Christmas-themed crafts. A travelling formula that invites you to discover, week after week, the local villages decorated for the holidays.
Among the stalls, you will find ornaments and decorations for the tree and the nativity scene, artisanal objects, gift ideas, and typical products. Admission is free for visitors.
Greve in Chianti is located along the SR222 "Chiantigiana" road, about 30 km south of Florence. By car, it can be reached from the Firenze Impruneta motorway exit (A1) by continuing towards Chianti. The villages of Montefioralle, Panzano, and Strada in Chianti can be reached in a few minutes from the main town.
The events take place on Sundays and holidays in December, on different dates depending on the village. Stalls are generally set up early in the morning (around 7:30 AM).
Access to the markets is free for visitors.
