Summer Tuesday evenings in the historic center of Tavarnelle, featuring music, shopping, and the flavors of Chianti
"Tavarnelle Under the Stars", also known as Tuesday Summer Nights in Tavarnelle, is one of the most beloved summer festivals in the Chianti region. Every Tuesday evening from June to September, the historic center of Tavarnelle, in the municipality of Barberino Tavarnelle (Province of Florence, Tuscany), transforms into a large open-air living room: the main streets become pedestrian zones and buzz with life until midnight.
For over twenty years, these summer Tuesdays have been a staple for Chianti residents and passing tourists alike. The initiative was born from a desire to revitalize the town's historic and commercial center, showcasing local boutiques and the conviviality typical of Tuscan villages. Shops, bars, and restaurants remain open with special late-night hours from 6 PM until midnight, complemented by twinkling window lights and candlelight on outdoor tables.
The event calendar features a mix of music, dance, performances, cultural shows, and culinary traditions, with a special focus on engaging younger generations. The town squares host open-air entertainment, while visitors stroll through the streets enjoying evening shopping and tastings: you can savor the famous bistecca in piazza (steak in the square) and the authentic flavors of Chianti cuisine.
The heart of the action is the historic center of Tavarnelle: Via Roma, Via Benedetto Naldini, Piazza Matteotti, and Piazza Domenico Cresti become the stage for these evenings. Pedestrian access to the central streets allows you to experience the village in total peace, immersed in the unique atmosphere of the Florentine Chianti.
The event is promoted by the Pro Loco of Tavarnelle and the "Di Bottega in Bottega" Commercial Center, in collaboration with the Officine Creative del Chianti and under the patronage of the Municipality of Barberino Tavarnelle. A team effort that confirms Tavarnelle as one of the most vibrant destinations in Chianti on Tuesday nights.
For summer 2026, the "Tavarnelle Under the Stars" festival returns every Tuesday evening from June 9 to September 8, confirming a tradition held for over twenty years. The historic center of Tavarnelle, in Barberino Tavarnelle, comes alive from 6 PM until midnight with special openings of local businesses and a calendar of music, dance, performances, and culinary traditions.
The edition is promoted by the Pro Loco of Tavarnelle and the CCN "Di Bottega in Bottega," with the Officine Creative del Chianti and the patronage of the Municipality of Barberino Tavarnelle. The evenings take place between Via Roma, Piazza Matteotti, and Piazza Domenico Cresti, featuring live music, entertainment for families, and tastings of Chianti flavors.
The festival is structured into weekly evenings every Tuesday, from June to September, from 6 PM to midnight. Each appointment offers a varied program alternating live music, dance, performances, and cultural shows in the town squares, alongside special openings of shops, bars, and restaurants, and culinary tastings including the famous steak in the square.
Tavarnelle is located along the SR2 Cassia road in the Florentine Chianti. By car from Florence, it takes about 40 minutes via the Florence-Siena highway (exit Tavarnelle/San Donato in Poggio). By train, the nearest station is Florence Santa Maria Novella, from where buses depart for the Val di Pesa.
Every Tuesday evening from June to September, from 6 PM to midnight. Shops, bars, and restaurants offer special late-night openings.
Access to the streets and squares of the festival is free. Only purchases, drinks, and food tastings at local businesses are paid.
