Celebrating the ancient peasant dish of Pagliare di Morro d'Oro
The Li Granitte nghi la fave Festival takes place in Pagliare di Morro d'Oro, a district of Morro d'Oro in the province of Teramo, nestled in the hills of the Adriatic Abruzzo region. The event, which began in 2015 and reached its sixth edition in 2026, centers on one of the most authentic and humble recipes of the local Teramo tradition: granetti, a rustic pasta made by hand with only water and flour, tossed in a savory base of fresh fava beans and onions.
Granetti tell the story of the hard work and ingenuity of local farming families. As local chronicles recall, when landowners demanded their share of eggs and poultry, the women of the house had to prepare a pasta made only with water and flour, without eggs, enriched by what the fields offered: fava beans, onions, and a touch of guanciale sautéed in the oil of the Teramo hills. It is a dish of memory, rooted in the 1940s and 1950s, which the festival has brought back to life by highlighting local, zero-mile products.
Alongside the signature dish, the food stalls offer the best of Abruzzese and Teramo cuisine:
Every evening of the festival is accompanied by concerts and shows in Piazza Giulio Cesare, with a program ranging from tributes to great Italian singer-songwriters to 70s, 80s, and 90s revivals. Live music brings the square to life until late at night, creating a popular festive atmosphere that involves both residents and visitors.
The event is organized by the Pro Loco of Morro d'Oro with the patronage of the Municipality of Morro d'Oro. Security and traffic management during the evenings are handled by the local police and volunteers. In addition to the food and music, the festival hosts local craft exhibitions, completing an offer dedicated to tradition and conviviality.
From June 18 to 21, 2026, Pagliare di Morro d'Oro hosted the sixth edition of the festival, with four evenings in Piazza Giulio Cesare dedicated to local gastronomy, crafts, and live music. The undisputed stars were the granetti with fava beans and onions, accompanied by arrosticini, sausage sandwiches, mazzarelle, and various frittelle.
The event was organized by the Pro Loco of Morro d'Oro with the patronage of the Municipality of Morro d'Oro.
