The celebration of Scorrano's signature dish, blending Teramo's gastronomy, music, and tradition

The Trabocchi Festival is one of the most anticipated gastronomic events of the summer in the Teramo area. It takes place in Scorrano, a hamlet of Cellino Attanasio, in the heart of the Abruzzo hills within the Valle delle Abbazie territory. Organized by the Associazione Culturale Scorrum Quercuum with the support of the local municipality, the festival is part of the 'Estate Cellinese' summer program and attracts visitors from all over Abruzzo every year.
The absolute star of the festival is li trabocchi, the signature dish that gives the event its name: small gnocchi cooked in a savory vegetable and meat sauce. The recipe is tied to a captivating local legend about a master named De Petris, who allegedly freed the people from a baron's tyranny. To celebrate their newfound freedom, the inhabitants of Scorrano are said to have created this dish, which has been passed down through generations to become a symbol of the village's identity.
Alongside the trabocchi, the food stalls offer traditional Abruzzo peasant specialties: sausages, pancetta, fried cheese, stuffed fried pizzas, chips, fried peppers, traditional desserts, and drinks. The festival is a perfect opportunity to rediscover the genuine flavors of the region in a convivial, village-style atmosphere.
The evenings are about more than just food: the program features live music and open-air dancing that keep the village center lively until late, as well as events dedicated to local passions, such as motorcycle rallies. For younger guests, there are games, entertainment, and face painting every evening, making the event suitable for the whole family.
More than just a food festival, the Trabocchi Festival represents a moment of unity for the entire community of Scorrano and Cellino Attanasio: an opportunity to rediscover the roots, history, and folk traditions of this corner of Abruzzo, blending memory, gastronomy, and celebration.
At the moment, the dates for the 2026 edition of the Trabocchi Festival have not yet been announced. Following the tradition of previous years, the festival is expected to take place in August in Scorrano, a hamlet of Cellino Attanasio (TE). The program will be published by the organizers in the weeks leading up to the event.
The festival is held in Scorrano, a hamlet of Cellino Attanasio (TE), in Abruzzo. The village is easily accessible by car from the A14 motorway (Val Vibrata or Roseto degli Abruzzi exits) and the local provincial road network.
Food stalls generally open in the evening from 8:00 PM. Admission to the festival area is free; you pay for what you consume at the food stalls.
As this is an evening summer event, we recommend arriving early to find parking and soak up the village atmosphere. For updated information on dates and the program, please refer to the official Trabocchi Festival Facebook page.
