About Lèla Festival

In the heart of the Alta Langa hills, in the village of Castellino Tanaro (Cuneo province), the Lèla Festival has been celebrating one of the most authentic symbols of local peasant cuisine since 1998: the lèla. This simple, unleavened bread made only from flour, water, and salt is now a recognized Municipal Denomination (De.Co.) product. Every June, the Pro Loco, with the support of the Municipality and the Province of Cuneo, hosts a weekend of gastronomy, live music, vintage tractor rallies, falconry, dance performances, and folk traditions.

The Lèla Festival in Castellino Tanaro

Nestled in the hills of the Alta Langa, in the small village of Castellino Tanaro in the province of Cuneo, the Lèla Festival is one of the most cherished events of the early summer. Organized by the local Pro Loco with the support of the Municipality, the Piedmont Region, and the Province of Cuneo, the festival brings the village to life for a full weekend in June, blending gastronomy, music, entertainment, and popular traditions.

What is the lèla?

The lèla (known in the local Piedmontese dialect as ra lèla 'd Castlèn) is a humble, unleavened bread made from essential ingredients: flour, water, and salt. It originated from the need of farming families to have a quick, simple bread that could be baked on a stove plate at a moment's notice when time or leavening agents were scarce. Once a symbol of food poverty in these lands, it is now a point of local pride, protected as a Municipal Denomination (De.Co.) product. During the festival, you can enjoy the lèla at both lunch and dinner, paired with typical Langhe delicacies.

A festive weekend for all ages

Founded in 1998, the event has grown over the years to attract visitors from across the entire Cuneo area. The program alternates between convivial gatherings and performances: dinners under the marquee with live music, a market featuring local crafts and produce, falconry displays, inflatables and face painting for children, historical re-enactments, roving musicians, and dance shows. One of the most popular highlights is the tractor rally, featuring a parade and awards for the best vintage and modern tractors, drawing agricultural machinery enthusiasts from all over the region.

Castellino Tanaro and the Alta Langa

Castellino Tanaro is an Alta Langa village overlooking the Tanaro valley, dominated by its iconic medieval tower, which is opened to the public during the festival. Attending the Lèla Festival is a chance to discover an authentic corner of rural Piedmont, where culinary tradition meets rolling hills and the warm hospitality of the local community.

Lèla Festival — edition 2026

The 2026 edition of the Lèla Festival took place on Saturday, June 6th and Sunday, June 7th in Castellino Tanaro, featuring dinners under the marquee, live music, a local market, falconry, a tractor rally, dance and magic shows, and of course, the lèla served at lunch and dinner.

The 2026 Lèla Festival brought Castellino Tanaro to life throughout the weekend of June 6th and 7th, confirming the blend of peasant gastronomy, music, and entertainment that has characterized the event since 1998.
