Two days in Lesegno to "eat like a pig": Balüva, street food, music, and tradition in the Langhe hills
The Sagra del Crin is the festival that transforms Lesegno, a small town in the province of Cuneo overlooking the Langhe hills, into a massive village of flavor every autumn. The name comes from the Piedmontese dialect: crin means pig, an animal at the heart of an ancient farming tradition deeply rooted in the Monregalese area. For two days, the historic center and the Castle Park are filled with food stalls, music, workshops, and shows, all under the ironic and affectionate invitation to "eat like a pig" (mangiare come un Crin).
The heart of the event is Balüva, the typical Lesegno sausage prepared by combining cotechino paste, pork cheek, and a rich blend of spices. Traditionally eaten during wheat threshing celebrations, Balüva has been a staple of local fairs since the early 20th century. The festival has revived its memory, pairing it with dishes like Crignoli (DE.CO. certified stuffed ravioli), pulled pork sandwiches, oven-roasted pork with potatoes, apple fritters, and traditional sweets like cupeta.
The Sagra del Crin is not just about food. The calendar alternates between show cooking and culinary workshops, street performances with artists and traveling bands, games for children, face painting, and creative activities, leading up to evening concerts and DJ sets that liven up the squares. There are also outdoor activities, such as e-bike excursions on the surrounding hill trails and walks toward the Castle of Lesegno, an ancient fortification where, according to tradition, Napoleon once stayed.
Located in the Langhe region, a land of wines and truffles recognized as a UNESCO World Heritage site, the Sagra del Crin is an opportunity to discover the authenticity of a Piedmontese village far from the main tourist circuits. Organized by the Associazione Ras-cia-cune, the festival combines the promotion of local products with the pleasure of conviviality, in a festive atmosphere that involves the entire community and welcomes visitors from all over the Cuneo and Monregalese areas.
Lesegno can be reached by car via the A6 Turin-Savona motorway (Niella Tanaro exit) and, from Cuneo, via the A33 Asti-Cuneo connected to the A6. The event takes place in the historic center, at Via Roma 31, and in the Castle Park.
Free parking is available at the sports area near the town hall and schools (Via Viaris), along Via Garibaldi, and along Via Marconi at the intersection with Via Roma.
Admission to the festival is free. To purchase food at the stalls, you must use tokens available at the cash desk (pink token €1, black token €5). Concerts, DJ sets, cabaret, tastings, and workshops are generally free; some activities (inflatables, e-bikes, rides, tasting tours) require a fee.
