The festival of fine Trentino milk in Val di Rabbi
Latte in Festa is the event that celebrates fine Trentino milk and mountain pasture traditions in the municipality of Rabbi, in Val di Sole, within the Stelvio National Park. For an entire weekend, the Plan area, just above Rabbi Fonti, transforms into a vibrant festival space where milk takes center stage, served pure or processed according to the ancient wisdom of the malgari (mountain herdsmen).
The event features two intense days of tastings, show-cooking, performances, games, and workshops designed for families and children. The farmers' market brings together local producers from the valley, while the RistoLatte — the event's dedicated dairy restaurant — serves traditional mountain dishes based on milk and cheese, such as the famous Casolét and Nostrani cheeses of Val di Rabbi.
The highlight of the event is the Desmalghjada, the traditional and colorful festival that marks the return of the herds from the high pastures. The cows, which have spent the summer grazing at altitude, are adorned with flowers and led down to the valley in a joyful procession, led by the cow that produced the most milk during the season. The parade, accompanied by brass bands and whip-crackers, attracts numerous visitors every year and represents one of the most authentic rituals of Trentino alpine culture.
Organized by the Rabbi Vacanze Tourist Consortium in collaboration with the Municipality of Rabbi, the Val di Sole Tourist Board, and local agricultural and cultural entities, Latte in Festa is an appointment that blends gastronomy, farming tradition, and mountain life. For those visiting Val di Rabbi and Trentino-Alto Adige at the end of summer, it is the perfect opportunity to discover the genuine flavors of the high pastures and the hospitality of a community deeply connected to its roots.
