The farmers' market of the Ultental Valley in the heart of St. Walburg
The Ultner Bauernmarktl is the farmers' market held in St. Walburg (Santa Valburga), the main village of the Ultimo municipality, nestled at an altitude of approximately 1,190 meters in the picturesque Ultental Valley, in the autonomous province of Bolzano, within the Trentino-Alto Adige region. Every other Saturday morning, from July to mid-October, the town center transforms into a lively meeting place where local farmers present the fruits of their labor.
What makes this market special is its authenticity: the stalls are managed directly by the farming families from the mountain farms of the Ultental and the nearby Deutschnonsberg. Visitors can purchase specialties rooted in Tyrolean tradition and mountain agriculture:
Beyond the sale of products, the Ultner Bauernmarktl offers a genuine glimpse into daily life on the farms and the traditions of the Ultental Valley, one of the most pristine valleys in South Tyrol. The event is organized by the Zuanochten working group (Ultental-Deutschnonsberg) and is an ideal opportunity for both residents and tourists to get to know the agricultural and gastronomic heritage of the area.
The same organizing group is also responsible for Zuanochten, a "slightly different" farmers' market held on select summer evenings: an evening format featuring quality farm products, traditional dishes, and a relaxed musical atmosphere. Together, these two events showcase the farming identity of this part of the South Tyrolean mountains.
The 2026 calendar confirms eight farmers' market dates in the center of St. Walburg, Ultimo municipality: July 11 and 25, August 8 and 22, September 5 and 19, and October 3 and 17. Each market takes place on Saturday morning, from 8:00 AM to 12:00 PM.
Stalls from the mountain farms of the Ultental and Deutschnonsberg will offer genuine, high-quality products: rye bread and Schüttelbrot, alpine cheeses, speck, jams, syrups, and aromatic herbs. Admission is free. In parallel, the Zuanochten group will host several evening farmers' market sessions.
St. Walburg (Santa Valburga) is the main village of the Ultimo municipality, reachable by car by driving up the Ultental Valley from Lana, taking the Bolzano Sud exit on the A22 Brenner motorway. The market takes place in the town center.
Saturday mornings, from 8:00 AM to 12:00 PM, on the dates scheduled from July to mid-October.
