The Schlanders Weekly Market

Every Thursday morning, from 8:00 AM to 12:30 PM, the center of Schlanders hosts its historic weekly market, one of the liveliest commercial events in the Vinschgau Valley, in the heart of South Tyrol. The stalls are spread between Stainerplatz and Plawennpark along the pedestrian area, turning the capital of the lower Vinschgau into a meeting point where locals do their shopping and visitors discover authentic mountain flavors.

Valley Produce

The market reflects the agricultural richness of the Vinschgau, a land of apple orchards and mountain farms. At the stalls, you will find:

• Apples and seasonal vegetables, grown in the valley's orchards and gardens
• Alpine cheeses, speck, smoked sausages, and other traditional cured meats
• Honey, schnapps, spirits, and juices produced by local farmers
• Rye bread and traditional Vinschger Paarl, baked according to ancient recipes
• Jams, alpine herbal teas, textiles, leather goods, and local handicrafts

The Bauernmarkt, the Farmers' Market

In the months from April to December, the traditional weekly market is accompanied by the Bauernmarkt, a farmers' market where local producers bring their freshly harvested specialties directly to you. It is the ideal opportunity to buy zero-kilometer fruit and vegetables and meet the people who work the land in the Vinschgau.

A Vinschgau Tradition

The Thursday market is an integral part of life in the Municipality of Schlanders, the capital of the Vinschgau, and is part of the long tradition of South Tyrolean markets, events that have marked the rhythm of mountain communities for centuries. Visiting it means coming into direct contact with the farming culture of Trentino-South Tyrol, in a bilingual setting where Italian and German coexist. Situated at the foot of the Ortler and surrounded by apple orchards, Schlanders is also a convenient base for exploring the valley's hikes and trails.
