Summer festival featuring Tuscan grilled meats and sgabei at Parco Le Sughere in Quattro Strade
Every summer, the village of Quattro Strade, in the municipality of Bientina (Province of Pisa, Tuscany), hosts the Grilled Meat and Sgabei Festival, a traditional fixture of the Valdarno Pisano region. The event takes place at Parco Le Sughere, a spacious, well-equipped green area that becomes the heart of local social life during the summer months, hosting a long calendar of food festivals.
The menu revolves around the two specialties that give the festival its name. On one hand, there are Tuscan grilled meats, cooked over an open flame according to the best regional traditions; on the other, sgabei, delicious pieces of leavened bread dough fried in a pan—a simple, mouth-watering local staple. Alongside these dishes, the food stalls offer other local specialties, all in the spirit of a traditional village fair.
The Grilled Meat and Sgabei Festival is more than just food: every evening is accompanied by live musical performances that entertain visitors until late. The relaxed setting of Parco Le Sughere, the summer lights, and the outdoor tables create the typical atmosphere of an August Tuscan festival, where families and friends gather to dine and enjoy good music.
The event is organized by the ASD Polisportiva Quattro Strade 1969 with the invaluable collaboration of the Circolo Ricreativo e Culturale Il Risorgimento Parco Le Sughere. It is a festival entirely run by local volunteers, with proceeds supporting the village's sports and recreational activities. Now in its eighteenth year, the festival is part of a rich summer program at Parco Le Sughere that includes numerous other events, from the Cockerel Festival to the Fish Festival, and the Sardinian Festival in September.
The 2026 edition will be held on the weekend of August 7-9 at Parco Le Sughere in Quattro Strade, just a few kilometers from the center of Bientina. Admission is free and the food stalls open in the early evening. It is one of the best opportunities to discover the popular cuisine of the Valdarno Pisano in an authentic setting accessible to everyone.
