A celebration of fried fish in the heart of the Monferrato hills near Asti
The Grand Mixed Fried Fish Festival is one of the most anticipated food and wine events in Castagnole Monferrato, a small town in the province of Asti nestled in the rolling hills of Piedmont. Organized by the Pro Loco of Castagnole Monferrato, the festival turns the village into a vibrant celebration where crispy fried fish takes center stage, drawing crowds of visitors from the surrounding area every year.
The heart of the event is, of course, the grand mixed fried fish: calamari, shrimp, anchovies, and other seafood specialties served golden and crispy, accompanied by appetizers and a first course. Everything pairs perfectly with local wines, especially the renowned Ruchè di Castagnole Monferrato DOCG, the native grape variety that has made this village famous throughout Italy. It is a curious and delightful contrast: in a hillside village devoted to vineyards and countryside, it is the seafood that brings food lovers together, blending the warm hospitality of Piedmontese festivals with the flavors of the sea.
Fine dining is paired with musical entertainment: the festival features dance nights with live orchestras that keep the Cortile dei Camminatori lively until late. The 2026 edition will feature performances by the bands B-SIDE and Sani e Salvi, cementing the perfect marriage of gastronomy and dance that defines this local tradition.
The Grand Mixed Fried Fish Festival is, above all, a community event built on the volunteer efforts of the Pro Loco and supported by the Municipality of Castagnole Monferrato. With over 600 seats available, it is the perfect opportunity to experience the hospitality of the Asti-Monferrato region, combining the discovery of its hilly landscapes and fine wines with an evening of great food and cheer. Edition after edition, it has become a staple of the summer festival calendar in the province of Asti.
The Grand Mixed Fried Fish Festival returns to Castagnole Monferrato on Saturday, June 13, and Sunday, June 14, 2026, in the Cortile dei Camminatori. Once again, the Pro Loco will serve its signature grand fried mix of calamari, shrimp, anchovies, and other seafood specialties, accompanied by appetizers, a first course, and local wines.
The two evenings will be animated by music and dance: on Saturday, June 13, dance the night away with the band B-SIDE, while on Sunday, June 14, the dance floor will be led by Sani e Salvi. Reservations are highly recommended due to the expected high turnout.
