Fried zucchini flowers and the flavors of Tuscan cuisine in the hillside hamlet of San Miniato
As spring gives way to summer, the hamlet of La Serra, nestled in the hills of San Miniato (Pisa province, Tuscany), gathers for one of its most delicious events: the Fried Zucchini Flower Festival. It is organized by the Circolo ARCI La Serra, the same association that enlivens the hamlet throughout the year with a busy calendar of gastronomic events, ranging from the Marzuolo Truffle Festival to the Bean and Fried Artichoke Festival.
The heart of the festival is, of course, the fried zucchini flower: golden, crispy, and delicate, it is one of those simple specialties that tell the story of the genuine, rustic Tuscan countryside. A whole menu of dishes prepared with zucchini flowers revolves around it, alongside other traditional San Miniato peasant dishes, from cold cuts and fried foods to meat main courses like pork chops. Everything is cooked by the club's volunteers with the care and generosity of true village festivals.
More than just a gastronomic event, the Fried Zucchini Flower Festival is a social gathering that attracts families, friends, and curious visitors from San Miniato and neighboring towns. The tables in the club's pavilion fill up during the evenings and lunches of late May and early June, in a relaxed and welcoming atmosphere filled with conversation, the aroma of fried food, and the joy of being together outdoors.
La Serra is located in the territory of San Miniato, a hillside village known throughout Italy for its prized white truffle and a food culture that spans the entire year with local hamlet festivals. The Fried Zucchini Flower Festival is part of this tradition: an authentic way to discover the cuisine of the Pisan hills, away from the most beaten tourist paths, sitting at the table with the locals.
The festival traditionally takes place between the end of May and the first days of June, with both dinner and lunch services. It is the perfect opportunity to combine a walk through the hills of San Miniato with a delicious stop to discover fried zucchini flowers and other flavors of the Tuscan countryside. For busier evenings, booking via the club's phone number is recommended.
The 15th edition of the Fried Zucchini Flower Festival was held at the Circolo ARCI La Serra pavilion in La Serra, San Miniato (PI), from May 30 to June 2, 2026. The schedule included dinner service on Saturday, May 30, and Monday, June 1, and lunch service on Sunday, May 31, and Tuesday, June 2 (Republic Day). The stars were fried zucchini flowers and other traditional Tuscan peasant dishes prepared by the club's volunteers.
