Wine tourism, thermal spas, and wineries of the Valdichiana in San Casciano dei Bagni
Launched in 2026 in San Casciano dei Bagni, a charming village in the province of Siena nestled between the Val d'Orcia and Valdichiana, this new event is dedicated to wine and the local territory: Fonti di Vino - Between Wine Glasses and Thermal Waters. The concept behind it is as simple as it is fascinating: to showcase the oenological identity of a town world-renowned for its thermal springs and the extraordinary archaeological discoveries of the Santuario Ritrovato.
The heart of the event lies in the nine wineries of San Casciano dei Bagni, which for the first time present themselves to the public together at dedicated tasting counters. This mosaic of small and medium-sized producers manages over 100 hectares of vineyards and produces 279,000 bottles annually: Podernuovo a Palazzone, Cantine Ravazzi, Cantina Giacomo Mori, Giacomo Baraldo Vigneron, SANCABA, Tenuta Le Forconate, Il Poggio, Sassosopra, and Azienda Agricola Gianni Barzi. Their production ranges from great Tuscan reds to niche labels, distributed across both national and international markets.
Alongside open tastings at the counters, the program offers masterclasses led by sommeliers from FIS Toscana (Italian Sommelier Foundation), designed to explore the grape varieties and organoleptic characteristics of local wines. The gastronomic dimension is equally important: wines are paired with local products and dishes prepared using the Cassetta di Cottura di San Casciano dei Bagni, an ancient traditional cooking method promoted by the local Slow Food community.
What makes this event unique is the blend of wine and water. Hosted at the Casina delle Rose of the Fonteverde Resort & Spa, the event offers participants special rates for access to the famous thermal baths. The weekend is further enriched by guided tours of the Santuario Ritrovatoโthe archaeological site that yielded over 5,000 Etruscan and Roman bronze artifactsโas well as horseback riding and winery visits by appointment. It is a complete experience that bridges wine tourism, wellness, and historical heritage in the province of Siena, Tuscany.
The inaugural edition of Fonti di Vino - Between Wine Glasses and Thermal Waters brought together for the first time the nine wineries of the San Casciano dei Bagni territory, in the province of Siena. In the setting of the Casina delle Rose at the Fonteverde Resort & Spa, the public was able to taste wines at the counters, participate in sommelier-led masterclasses, and discover local products, pairing the oenological experience with the thermal and archaeological offerings of the village.
